The Who and ZZ Top only had one guitarist who did all the leads, didn't they? Would that not be a place to start? :)

Actually, yes...we're already doing a couple of Who tunes ("Behind Blue Eyes" and "Can't Explain") and a few ZZ Top tunes ("Tush", "Smart Dressed Man" and "Fool For Your Stockings"...with me singing that last one) . I don't like to do more than 3 or 4 covers at most from any one group though...I don't want us to get labeled as a "tribute band".

We're also doing "Rockin In The Free World" by Neil Young, but our singer isn't really crazy about Neil Young or John Fogerty/CCR.

Wolfmother are a crackin band. They need a lot more exposure.

Again looking for known, well established classic rock and/or oldies tunes...NOT stuff from obscure folks that most people have never heard of. "Wolfmother" may be a very good band, but it's not something that most folks are going to recognize around Northern Ohio here.

To maybe give folks a better idea of what we're looking for, in no particular order here's some of what we have so far....

Pride & Joy - SRV
Mary Had a LIttle Lamb - SRV
Cold Shot - SRV
Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac
Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
Louie Louie - The Kingsman
Horse With No Name - America
Crossroads - Clapton
Sunshine of Your Love - Clapton
Pink Houses - John Mellencamp
Crumblin Down - John Mellencamp
Behind Blue Eyes - The Who
Can't Explain - The Who
Tush - ZZ Top
Smart Dressed Man - ZZ Top
Fool For Your Stockings - ZZ Top
Give Me One Reason - Tracey Chapman
Spooky - The Classic IV
Pigs on the Wing/Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
Margarittaville - Jimmy Buffet
Johnny B. Goode - Chuck Berry
Fire - Peggy Lee
What I Like About You - The Romantics
Mercedes Benz - Janis Joplin
Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin

Etc., etc...... There's a few others as well...a few that we've talked about, a few that we've tried that just didn't work, etc.. "Lola" by The Kinks for example...great tune, but I can't sing and play that one at the same time and it doesn't sound right with a woman singing it, so it got scratched. Sunshine of Your Love by Clapton is probably going to go for the same reason. We also tried "All Day, All Night" by The Kinks and it was just awful...sometimes tunes click and sometimes they just don't.

We are throwing in some originals as well but for this particular group, so far at least we're trying to keep the originals a bit limited. The lead singer and I both have plenty of original material, but at this point we're only looking to do maybe 4 or 5 of the tunes. Even with the originals, that still puts us at less than 30 tunes and again I'd like to get that up to between 40 and 50 tunes total so we need at least another 12-15 tunes.

Ok...that should give you some ideas of what we're looking for. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Jim
