Bob Welch, too ... right?

Bob Welch came in in 1971 afer Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer quit. Christine McVie (nee Perfect) started as an uncredited session musician in 1968.
After Danny Kirwan's drinking became a problem, they ran him off and brought in Dave Walker and Bob Weston for one album (Penguin, I think) and Weston stayed on for Mystery to Me.

Bob Welch was with the band from 71 through 1974 and four albums - Bare Trees, Future Games, Mystery to Me, and Penguin.

Very interesting. I don't think I ever knew there was a "Fleetwood Mac" before Buckingham and Nicks were in it and recorded Rumors. I would consider it the band after that landmark album.

Listen to Albatros. Its a exceptionaly beautifull piece of music. Also black magic woman covered by santana is a mac song. The supernatural from green era bluesbreakers. Santana said that song made him quit violin and start playing guitar. Also BBKing invited green to record a album with him,Greeny knocked him back and clapton applied. BB then refused clapton until much later when he viewed Eric to have matured as a player.

A lot of fans argue the buckingham mac to be a lesser band. Not me its a opinion held by some. I like all incarnations of the band.

Fleetwood Mac started in 1967. Peter Green was and is one of the world's GREAT blues guitarists. He and Jeremy Spencer (on slide guitar) loved Chicago style blues. When Danny Kirwan joined the band, they had what is arguably the first real 3 guitar band - and they played some hot stuff.

Fleeetwood Mac wrote the song Black Magic Woman as a blues tune.
dgonz, I heartily recommend you check out some early Fleetwood Mac.

Beatles and Rolling Stones. Rolling Stones just for durability alone. Rare to last that long.

I agree with nikininja. I like all of the incarnations of the band. They are all quite different, yet all very talented. Lot of changes they have gone through - yet they still exist over 40 years....

The stones are the ultimate band to me. Even though i dont like their songs much past the early 70's stuff. Whatever style of music is vogue at any one time they seem to incorporate it whilst remaining primarily 'THE STONES'.

Truely a sign of a great band to have done that for 45 years.
Lets face it where would telecaster sales be without keef sound's to see em through the hard times.

Those mentioned are all great and different.

Beatles were a great pop band, good writers.

The Who I never really liked.

Clapton is good, though I never considered him a good blues player.

Page is one of my favorites. I loved the guitar lines he came up with.

Gilmore and May are great guitar players. Fleetwood Mac is american.

Oasis was ok, Noel was the whole band in my opinion. Liam needs to be publicly beaten though. Repeatedly.

The Darkness should be treated to razor blades and lemon juice.

I liked The Outfield, well some of their songs.

very well put my friend... very well put

in my opinion, there is no one answer to this question. british music spans a whole spectrum of diversity, and maybe if you could create a giant orchestra of famous british musicians, then that would be the best band ever.

The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and the Stones. And Cream. How could we forget Cream?!

David Gilmour is a fine guitarist, but I was never a big Pink Floyd fan after Dark Side of the Moon.

What about some 80's bands? The Police, the Clash? U2 I guess doesn't count because they're from Ireland. Or the Pretenders because Chrissie Hynde is from Ohio.
