my dad put together a strat with a different assortment of well aged fine parts and he put brand new pick ups and wiring system in it. i have a mid to late eighties lead II and its all original and ive had it for 3 years (way long enough to get attached) and i got it, as i do all of my guitars, from my dad now he wants to know if id be interested in trading my Lead II for his strat and like i said im attached to mine but i would love nothing more than to possess the awesomeness of his handbuilt stratocaster. should i advance to the strat??? :?: :?: :?:

If you really lust after that Strat, then yeah I'd swap him for it but just make sure the Lead II stays in the family!!

Why not share ? Your family, after all he is your Dad and helps you out with your other projects. I doubt he would hurt you.

he tells me he wants to sell the lead 2 so he can buy us more equipment and he also says its better to sell it now while its at a good price because its starting to wear out and he hasnt fixed it yet and i know better because its a really good guitar and he knows it to but he doesnt think i know that but i think im gonna trade anyways because well... i really want the strat i played it for hours last night and sat there looking at the lead 2 as i played the strat and decided it was what i wanted but that doesnt mean im not gonna miss the heck outta that guitar i did most of my learning on it... stevie ray vaughan jimi hendrix john mayer eric clapton and lots of other artists songs i learned on it. it has a real sentimental value to it but i think its time to say goodbye and let somebody (hopefully worthy) experience its greatness (i wont sell it to just anybody  its my baby) and now its time to take into my arms the guitar ive waited my whole life for...

Sounds like your dad is a great guy who would never steer you wrong. I'd go with his suggestion. Besides, a Strat is leaps and bounds above a Lead II.

Something which links you to your father is much, much more important than any material possession.

I'd say go for it. But then again Lead ll are hard to come by. If I were you i'd wait and then see if anyone wants to buy it then buy yourself your own guitar. But that's me 8)
