I'd say its more of a show of emotion rather than moving my mouth. Sometimes I play with "anger" like I'm trying to punish my guitar, most of the time its with "joy" so I'll have a big stupid smile on my face. I never stand still when I play.

not only does my mouth move, but often my tongue takes it upon itself to project through my lips and proceed to run laps around the exterior of my mouth as though searching for some random bit of nacho thats not even there. In my defense, this only happens when I'm learning something new or playing something difficult. It's just a sign of intense focus, and is rather common. Occasionally when I tank a note a friend will jest, " You must not have been holding your tongue right." :lol:

It just might be part of expressing yourself as your playing. Many artists do it, SRV is one that comes to mind.

Yeah, I'm also a drummer too (as we've discussed before). When I was a kid I heard the likes of Gene Krupa and Lionel Hampton doing all that loud humming as they played, and Buddy Rich giving himself encouraging shouts of "yeah!". For a while I presumed all that stuff was actually a requirement and cultivated the habit.

Then I had to learn how not to do it after all.

Talking, singing and pulling faces as we play? That's nutt'n...

Cheers - C

My mouth moves when I play if I'm singing.

yes i move my mouth when i play. i used to do it a lot, but i broke myself of it and now it only opens a little bit.

and Angus Young moves his mouth like crazy when he plays, especially on solos.

It was all the rage during the 06's;
Hendrix
Page
Santana
Blackmore
Even my friends did it during the 70's.
As far as I remember, I have never done it, I let my fingers do the walking, ...unless I have to sing.

Mine moves when I get into ehatever I am playing. I'm not sure why. It ranges from grinding my teeth to biting my lip.

I chew gum. It makes those notes that I can't vocally reach anymore sound better. :shock: :wink: :?
