A price increase in the middle of a recession! Outrageous! That's like Fender saying they'd rather sell no widgets at $100 each instead of some widgets at a more reasonable price. I hope Fender survives because the world needs their guitars but, if their management is that dense, they may not be around long. :x I won't be buying.

FMIC is not hurting. They were advertising 11 job openings yesterday! People will continue buying them if they were serious in the first place. If someone has been saving for a while to buy a certain model most will spend several hundred more to get it. Just have to save a little longer or buy your second sub choice. Not buying is like cutting your nose off to spite your face. JMO.

And respect to your cat too, for backup vocals. My moggies just leave the room when I start playing...

Thumbs up to you, man - C

Thanks Ceri! And Pangea (my cat) thanks you, too.

And it looks like the Price Hike finally hit Musicians Freind and Sam Ash, Oh Well, Crow doesn't taste so bad.

I bought an American Deluxe Strat a year ago....and now it's gone up about $300. Guess I bought mine at a good time. Anway.....with people getting laid off........or worried about their jobs and saving their money....I think sales would've gone down anyway. The price increase at a time like this will only send the sales numbers even further down.

An amp I bought a year ago......also went up about $300. All Fender products.

At least I now have all the guitars that I want.........now all I need to put out is money for guitar techs if needed. And I can shop around the ones that I know are good........for the cheapest price.

Thanks, you made my day right back. :D It's nice to have ones efforts appreiated.

Oh Well's always been a favorite of mine. Oddly enough, the first version of it I heard was by Joe Jackson.

This is probably the best response I have heard regarding the Fender price increase on another forum:
I'm constantly amazed when folks scream and stomp and tear their hair out over price increases, particularly in a case like this, where the company involved, Fender, has quite obviously been selling its merchandise for LOW prices for several years.

What makes low prices profitable? Volume sales.

What kills that kind of profit? Economic slowdown.

What is the world economy in the middle of right now?

To be outraged when a company adjusts to the market conditions is to be wasting a lot of angst for no good reason...

So quit whining on how a luxury item has increased in price, as far as I know, as much as you think you may, you will not die if you have to wait a bit longer to get a new guitar...

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not rich and was pinching pennies and couldn't wait to buy a mexican standard for $400 (in my opinion better than the "improved models). Then they shoot up to $449. I figured, OK, I like the old one better, but if I can't find one, I'll get it.
Then, overnight, they go to $549. RIPOFF. No way, Fender.
I was so pissed I called and $@!&#*. If you are too, here's the number:
(480) 596-7195.
And for all you people who call us whiners, maybe you're loaded, but I'm not. A $100 overnight price (actually $150) on a relatively cheap guitar is ridiculous.

My next guitar is gonna be one I build myself. I've got 2 Strats (one SSS and the other HHH) and a Tele so all my basic needs are covered. I've been doing mods, set ups, and repairs long enough to where I can sure as heck put all the parts together. Now it's just a matter of deciding which parts retailer is going to get my business.

Paying a thief to steal is not my idea of sound judgement.

And don't have any illusions about it boys and girls, it's what they are doing. Prices are getting jacked waaaay up to keep profits up. Fender will be able to stay afloat on the strength of Squier and MIM Standard sales. The overpaid administrative weenies and the overpaid US union workers need to take a paycut and the price increase needs to be something more reasonable.
