Bluestube, one of my brothers-in-law worked in the oil business in Norway for many years (he speaks both of your languages/dialects perfectly, apparently). He told me that in Norway you can choose to live anywhere you like and the government will build a road and water and electricity facilities to your house for you. Can that really be true?

And if so, will they not buy you a nice guitar, too? After all, what else are those oil billions for?

Cheers - C

We took a cruise down the Norwegian coast (fantastically beautiful, by the way) and we saw islands with long and no doubt amazingly expensive bridges leading to them, and yet only half a dozen houses on those little islands.

My brother-in-law wasn't always right about stuff - but he might have been at least half right about that...

Third largest oil reserves on the planet: four million population. I've an idea they are the richest country in the world per capita, give or take a tiny tropical tax haven or two...

I can tell you from building scandinavian houses they save loads on fuel costs. Absolute market leaders in green economy.

Honestly Fender makes unbelievable instruments and after with their suppliers raising prices on things they have to do this. In my opinion 1400.00 for a American Standard Strat is fair.

Yup, I agree, and I don't think the price will ever go down again after this down turn in the eating machine is over.

People will just become used to the new price and it will be Business as usual after a while.

It is ridiculious... a 30% raise in price is wayyy too much. I understand the whole economic issue and stuff, but really 30%...

I was looking to buy another telecaster of maybe even a 57' American Vintage strat, but after that price raise, no. It took me 4 years to get enough money to by my 975$ Brand new American Standard Strat, so now all those guitar are way out of my budjet.

:(

AH well it has hit here now.

The Blues Deluxe I paid 650$cdn for last October
is now 960$cdn at the same Long&Mcquade store.

At least the Korg Metro-Gnome I bought to replace my ancient one that would only go tick, but not tock was only 24$.
Probably be closer to 100$ if I waited till next week.

cu_jarrett,

How do you know Fender's suppliers raised their prices? I would offer that under the current economic conditions, most companies have held pricing steady. If the suppliers did raise pricing, I would think it would be minimal…not 30%

In actuality, most of my suppliers have lowered there pricing. The current CPI would support my theory as well.
