If its an actual prototype, there may not be much information...in fact, its not listed with their regular line of guitars, so I am under the impression, is a Research and Develepment (RD) prototype of a model they are testing out to mass produce at some point, but perhaps not just yet...

Hi Thumbs: Avalon Guitars are makers of very top end acoustics. Often rather left of field designs - check out the Bevel models in their Master Series, for example:

http://www.avalonguitars.com/guitars/custom_bevel.php

They are based in Northern Ireland, hence the celtic flavored touches to some of their guitars.

I've never had my hands on one, but by all reports they are highly regarded. Magazine reviewers usually go all gooey over them...

Cheers - C

Note that the Avalon Silver series guitars are made by Cort in South Korea. But they still get rave reviews.

I've seen Estiban guitars on shopping channels. Interesting......almost thought of buying one.........then I read the reviews.......bad tuners, decals around the sound holes, when it was advertised as a much more quality and craftsmanship kinda of thing. I backed off really fast. As they say, "if it sounds too good to be true......it probably is."

Interesting - didn't know that.

Though I notice a Silver Series doesn't even seem to be mentioned on their website. Does that mean they're ashamed of it? Or perhaps the budget label is actually owned by someone else - a distribution company perhaps?

Who knows what goes on behind the scenes with these companies...?

Cheers - C

They quit making the Silver Series in 2007. Now all of their guitars are touted as "Handcrafted in Ireland".
But it is worth noting because I am sure some of the Silver's are still floating around for sale. They were attempting to generate more sales, and since their top of the line guitars run $4000+, thought they try a more budget line. It was successful for a few years with glowing reviews. Why they discontinued it is anyones guess.

Here is one article on the deal:

According to my friend who is trying to sell me one. That particular guitar is his uncles signiture series. the story goes that his uncle was a luthier with avalon until his untimely death sometime this past year. I have no idea how much if any of this is true.

On a side note, I've decided to go with the Carvin acoustic as it could still be several months before the avalon goes to production.

Thanks to those who posted.

Hey Troublecall, you are very well informed! Very interesting, thank you.

Not the most expensive on the planet - but it's still an eyewatering price, ain't it...?

Cheers - C

PS Good luck with it, Thumbs...
