That's one of the reasons I quit the Gibson board, too many quarrels, people were more sharp-tempered...nothing like I thought it would be, compared to the Fender boards.

Why war though? Personally, I'd worry about finding similarities instead of differences.

Yes, I hope we focus on what's really important - speaking of which, tommygunn, that's awful about your house! I feel bad that once the Republican Convention came back on the situation dropped out of the news and people stopped thinking about it - of course there's going to be hard work rebuilding and putting the community back together after something like that. I'm glad you can come here and talk about something you love among friends.

And they can put all their gold bars in your banks......

I guess Jeff Beck would be the first customer then? why would he even have a sig. Les Paul- his strat is way cooler does anyone agree? check it out- its the most lame Les Paul colour ive seen.

Without having seen the Gibson thread, it's hard to really "evalute" the OP's statement about this being any kind of "war" per say, but that said, I wouldn't be surprised either.

First and foremost, as others have said there are certainly other companies who make fine instruments...Jackson, Rickenbacker, PRS, Schector, just to name a few. But Fender and Gibson are for all intensive purposes the industry leaders and there will always be some degree of tension based on that alone. Just as Pepsi and Coke have been duke'in it out for years, the same will always be true of Fender and Gibson.

Beyond that though, there's that plain old, simple, stupid human pride to contend with. Honestly, you see that around here all the time...the endless (and subjectively pointless) Am Std vs. MIM vs. Squire debates. While this certainly isn't true of everyone, typically speaking the more a person spends on a given instrument, the more that person has a tendency to "look down their nose" at others who are unwilling or unable to spend as much. This lovely modern Western culture in which so many of us have grown up in has taught us "bigger, better, faster, more...". Now a days you not only have to "keep up with the Jones'", you have to simply crush them! He who dies with the most, most expensive toys wins! Certainly many people like this don't like to actually admit that it's rather petty and childish...they'd rather rationalize their decisions by down playing the quality and such of a less expensive instrument (or car or TV or computer or gaming console...). With this type of mentality in mind, it's no real surprise that a person who may spend as much as $1500 to $4000 or more for a Gibson is going to get snooty over something like a $400 Fender (oh...sorry...make that a $550 Fender as the prices are going up! LOL!). While many people won't admit it, it doesn't really have anything to do with the quality of a given instrument, it's simply "pride"...perhaps the single greatest motivation of pissing contests ever to evolve in the human culture. "I spent more money so -mine- is better! I win!" Blah...

In the end it's no different than the infamous rivalry between Ford and Chevy,...some like one, some prefer the other. Others still have to have a Mercedes or a Hummer or a BMW as a status symbol. Personally I drive an old, beat up Dodge minivan...get's decent gas millage, has a great heater for these cold Ohio winters and it hauls all of my band equipment around quite nicely thank you very much :D. Best of all, it only cost me $700...and I payed cash for it!

Fender, Gibson, Rickenbacker, Schector, PRS...it's all good as long as you're happy with what you are playing. Personally I'm a Strat man myself because I -like- Strats. I never cared for the feel of a Les Paul (or even an SG and most PRS's)...regardless of how much someone thinks they are worth (vintage or otherwise). Give me a good "cheap" guitar that I actually enjoy playing over an expensive instrument that I don't care for -any day-.

Alrighty, just my $.02 worth as always,
Jim

I think I can clear this up:

There is NO "WAR." I mean, what are you going to do, send letter bombs to each other?

If you mean a war of junk posts, do you see any? No. There are no posts on this subject by anyone but members of this forum.

It's not happening. And if it were, the moderators of both forums would end it in a heartbeat.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Why, one wonders, upon seeing the thread name of this string, did the phrase, "Grow up," instantly come to the forefront of this picer's consciousness?

I don't hate Gibsons, I just hate whoever decides what the prices of their guitars should be, and whoever approved the Gibson Kiefer Sutherland guitar.

I don't think there is any point in a forums war with the gibson site. Both companies make good products in thier own right and Fender runs a better forum IMHO (insert brownie points from Moderator here) Let's show some resonsibility and not add any gas to the fire.
