The other night my wife and i were watching the Superbowl Halftime show and she leaned over to me and asked sincerely:

"Is that wear on Bruce Springsteens guitar real? or did Fender do that for him?"

I was amazed at the question, and immediately laughed my a** off. I forget how perceptive my wife is being the wife of a guitarist.

i don't remember telling her about the Road Worn series but i guess i did.

Sometimes they will surprise you. :D

I like how at the beginning, he threw it to a roadie, who just "barely" caught it before is smashed on the stage :)

My wife "caught" that one.

[quote="Twelvebar"]splitting hairs here, but its an Esquire, not a tele.[/quote
If you put a 2nd pickup in it, is it still an Esquire?

If you have a Chevy Cavalier and you drop a small block Chevy 350 in it, is it still a Cavalier? Obviously the answer is yes...you just have a Cavalier with a much larger engine or a "modified" Cavalier.

So yes...it's still an Esquire, just a modified Esquire.

Peace,
Jim

Gee, when Leo took a 2nd pickup and put it into an Esquire, He called it a Telecaster. Same guitar, same body, same neck, one more pickup, different name.

Barring any historical inaccuracies to your reference here (it went from Esquire to Broadcaster in 1950, not Tele and according to Fender's website, it was Don Randall that coined the terms Esquire, Broadcaster, Telecaster, etc., and not Leo himself), if Louis Chevrolet had of done it to one of his creations and decided to rename it...such is the creator's right. If GM were to put a small block V8 in a Cavalier and call it something else, that too would be their right (wait...didn't GM do that with the Firebird/Camero...or was it the Camera/Firebird...the chicken and the egg??). But for an end user to modify something of that nature that's pre-existing...it's still just a mod.

You could go out and buy a brand new Gibson Les Paul, rip the humbuckers out and rivet a plastic pick guard with 3 single coil pickups on to the front of it and you could even call it the "Paiscaster" (although "Disastercaster" seems more fitting...hmmm...I'll have to remember that one), but that doesn't mean the instrument is anything other than a (perhaps badly) modified Les Paul. If Gibson however were to do the same thing and were to call it the "Gib-o-caster" (the "Snottycaseter"?), assuming they didn't get themselves sued for trademark, copyright or patent infringement or something similar, that would be their right as the company that builds and distributes that instrument.

Gee...imagine that  .

Sticks and stones mate... I was simply correcting your flawed and inaccurate analogy with what I believed to be a few facts and/or a little substance for the benefit of others. Either way, as always these are simply my own personal opinions...if you don't care for my views, then perhaps you should simply ignore anything I post.

Have a nice day,
Jim
