There has been many threads about the price increase, Most MIM strats are $449 now, Sunburst is $474 which is standard......but why is Lake Placid Blue and Candy Apple Red $550?

metallic undercoat is way less forgiving. They are probabl the hardest finishes to do. maybe the paints with flake cost more now too.

These finishes are done with a colour coat with metallic flake in it, and then a translucent final colour coat. The metallic coat is usually silver(like inca silver,)for either the CAR or the LPB, or gold(or amber,) is used sometimes for the CAR. Personally I think the metallic amber makes the Red pop more than the silver undercoat. I think the process is likely the most complex of the finishes, and arguably the hardest to do properly, but I still don't think it warrants that big of a price difference.

Possibly the others are not far behind. I think I'll be fine with my American Standard Olympic White :D

Low Production and harder to apply. That's why they used to reserve those colors for their more expensive models, like the Jimmy Vaughan and 60's Strat. Two tone burst is a little more involved than a one color paint so it's a little more expensive. It looks like Fender may be taking a queue from Jackson. Their DK model is priced from $599-$949 depending on finish.

Get ready. 550.00 will be the price on all the MIM standards eventually. I also heard from a reliable source that American standards will be going from 999 to 1250.00.

When the Roadworn Strats came in at $950, that was the first thing I thought of. There is no way an MIA Std will be $50 more for long. The price is too close. Fender can get away with it initially because the Roadworns are the "new thing". But after that, there needs to be some more price disparity between the two. That is marketing 101. It only makes sense ...

Even though color is secondary, if you like a certain color and it cost more than go for it. You`ll enjoy looking at it as much as you enjoy playing it. How often do you buy a new guitar ? The price increase was bound to happen, everything else on the shelves went up from food to socks so this was inevidable.
