You know, growing up I liked Billy Squire, then I watched the video that killed his career! WOW he was prancing, dancing, swinging his arms (like a girl) , rolling on the floor etc! He reminded me of a cross between Madonna and Kevin Bacon "Footloose" movie  . I cant believe I would blast that song on the radio when driving my 1st car......maybe thats why I didnt pick up more girls!

Another example of why MTV was (and remains) evil.

You liked the way that song made you feel, and the movie you created in your own head (starring you!) when it played. But when somebody's else's creepy pictures got associated with the song, you couldn't enjoy it anymore.

And that's bad.

Take me to You Heart or something? I do remember one video in particular where he was prancing around a little too much and thinking "if that was a girl, it would be really cure. for a guy - that's a little creepy"

I did seem him open up for REO Speedwagon back in the day and he put on a great show, and sounded perfect - so I'll give him that much...

Actually what you mentioned is a line from Billy Squiers "Rock Me".

Gottta admit, he did have a few cool songs though. I still love blasting the opening riff to Lonely Is The Night for sound checks every now and then :)

Yes you hit the nail on the head, and said it better than me! :)

I remember seeing Billy Squier in the group Piper!

I read a article on him in Vintage Guitar magazine a couple of years ago where now he's a groundskeeper at Central Park, and only on occasion does he tour.

This makes it sound like he's down on his luck.
Wikipedia gives it a different spin:

Quote:
In 2002, he married Nicole, a professional German soccer player. They divide their time between a home on Long Island and an apartment in the famous San Remo on Central Park West in Manhattan. Billy Squier is an active volunteer for the Central Park Conservancy, doing the hands-on "dirty work" by maintaining 20 acres of the park, as well as promoting the Conservancy in articles and interviews.

I think he is quite comfortable. I believe he's making pretty good money having hip hop artists sampling his old works.

Sounds to me like he is doing something he enjoys, and/or feels is important.
Kind of sounds like the idea everyone should have for a semi-retirement. Find something you love and care about to occupy yourself, and play whenever you want, but not do it just for the cash grab.

Music video has killed off a number of artists who sounded good, but looked goofy, awkward, or lacked acting ability. That's why I don't watch them for the most part.

Base what you like on the music an artist produces, not how they look or how well they act in a video. They are musicians not dancers or actors. It's about the music right?

Billy made a damned poor choice when he listened to the director and choreographer for that shoot for sure. He's one of the guys that should have stuck to live concert footage or lip sync'd stage shows.

I just watched the video again, I haven't seen it since it was in rotation. I have to say, I really like Squire, but damn, if I don't think he deserved all the damage that did to his career.

Nice. Gheyness doesn't negate anyone's ability to rock, not does it magically make them any "cooler".

But seeing a highly feminine display of horrid dancing, in the 80's, for a popular artist, is going to quickly change some people's likes or dislikes of that person.

I remember seeing Crystal Waters' "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)" - the popular song year ago, and I always liked it. I saw her perform it in front of a crowd, and she had a very "unique" way of moving/dancing on the stage. I remember seeing most of the crowd (and myself) watching and just looking blankly like "Uuuuhhhhhhhhhhh..................... yeah..... ". I'd always picture that when I heard the song after that, and didn't listen to it much.

I don't recall the video in question, but I sure don't want to torture myself by finding it and viewing it after what all of you have said about it!

Let me keep a good image of Billy in my mind!
