What is the best set up for springs in the Fender Strat. I just got a new Strat HSS and I've heard several different setups for springs work the best. Which set up you use?

I have 3 or 4 springs in my strat(think its 4) and have the adjusting screws tight to keep the trem block down against the body of the guitar, gives me downward trem use, but pull back tight, I find is helps keep things in tune

It depends on what you want to do.
If you want to free float with .009's, 2 will do.
If you want to flush-mount that trem, use 3, you would otherwise have to strip your screw clear to the other end of you spring well.
Anything else is 3 and above.

Right now, I have three springs, but I'm about to get five to hold it to the body. I've never even taken the tremolo bar out of the bag ('06), so what's the point of having a floating tremolo that loses tone. IMHO :D

I use 3 in my Fender Stratocaster HWY 1 and 4 in my ESP LTD.

Depends on how hard you are on the tremolo and what gauge stings you use. I have 5 springs in both of my Strats, and one of them has .12's. More springs help the tuning stability as well. The only thing is that with four or five springs you can't just use the tremolo lightly, you've got to hammer it.

I use 3 springs and 1/8 float with .9's.

Hardly use the tremolo, but I do like the sound of it :P

Hi

I have 4 springs and the bridge flat to the body, but thinking of changing it to floating.

Regards.

4 springs and 10's now. Heavier if my fingers are not messed up :)
Really did a number on them trying to do three string bends,

I use 3 springs with 9 gauge strings - you shouldn't need 5 springs for 9s or 10s, but might need more spring power for 12s. It also gives a different feel as each spring is less stretched...
