John Mayall deserves his own thread.

Most people who have heard of him know that Eric Clapton played on his Beano Album (I mean, the poor guy's overshadowed by a Comic Book Character).

I was lucky enough to grow up listening to "Turning Point", one of the Greatest Acoustic Albums ever recorded.

Yeah that's John Mayall's 70th Birthday Concert. I have it on DVD, it's great Rock n' Blues.

Search the hard road album featuring pete green. Easily on a par with the beano album guitar wise. Greenies use of feedback on the supernatural is so spooky.
Mayall deserves his own forum. The blokes consistent output of quality blues is nothing short of amazing.

One of my prized possession is a copy of the 1971 double album "Back to the Roots". Not only is it full of wonderful music, brought on by a return of former sidemen like Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, Johnny Almond, Harvey Mandel, Keef Hartley and Sugarcane Harris, there is a "family tree" insert in it showing the progresssion of people that had played with John up until that date and where they had gone.

Wonderful musicology.

My only exposure to Mayall was the Beano album, and much later, the film called Red, White and Blues that I saw on PBS during the "Year of the Blues".

Or was it the film Soul of a Man? (Same PBS series)

Ya gotta Check out "Turning Point", not to mention his stuff with Peter Green.

I remeber when I found out Clapton was in Cream whoever it was that enlightened me said, "Yeah, right after he did the Bluesbreakers with John Mayall." I remember saying something like, "You're kidding, John Mayall played with Clapton?" I ran right out and got the first copy of John Mayalls Bluesbreaker with Eric Clapton (aka "The Beano Album" for those just finding this stuff out). It was a Tape with no Liner note and such a poor picture of the album cover I couldn't tell which one was Clapton let alone that he's reading a Comic Book.

I don't have much by Peter Green either.
I'd like to get more music with him working with Mayall and with Fleetwood Mac.

I've got lots of Clapton, though. Lots!

I picked up the greeny anthology a couple of weeks ago. 4cds of all his facets including the disturbing ones. He really lost it with some of the 70s/80/s solo stuff he did but the classy note selection is still present.
I'd look for the mac albums 'mr wonderfull' and 'peter greens FM original hits'. Their the 2 best all round lps he released. The blue horizon sessions are great too but a little rough in places. Yeah before you ask im a 36 year old green devotee/fanboy. My dads endless playing of him got me into guitars pretty much.

Peter Green was a wonder - shame he lost his mind..

I always thought that John Mayall did more, single handed, for what we consider modern blues than any other single individual on the face of the planet. Just on the basis of the people that have been a part of the Bluesbreakers over the years.

Check this link out.
