I`ve seen more than one thread about this topic but I feel the need to tell my fellow guitarists that it was just announced on the 6 p/m news that thieves are now targeting homes with guitars for their high value. Keep a record of your serial numbers and try not to let people know what you have in your home. They also said the police are reporting this because the nature of the crime is becoming more violent. Lets all take the necessary precautions to protect our valueable instruments and for our own safety.

So hows the...

69 Les Paul Deluxe
63 Fender Princeton
08 Fender Blues Jr.
Roland Micro Cube

I'm just saying that one way people find out what you have in your home is by what you post on forums and social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook, as your signature on this forum lets us know what some of the stuff you have in your house is...

Don't forget that if you buy something over ebay, forum classifieds or whatever then you give away your name and address.

Bow, Don`t worry about what I have listed. Its protected by the owner in more ways than you can imagine. I`m retired, if anyone tries to break in their making a big mistake.

Yeah, I feel for the poor fool that breaks into my home. We were broken into a few years ago and ended up with a big guard dog, security system, and gun. It is amazing how vunerable one feels after being robbed. If I am not home and if they can get in the house before the cops get here, the dog will suffice. I also try not to announce to the neighbors what I have, I guess I should've been a little more careful on the net, but I thought that it would be ok here on the Forum. Not too many people know where exactly I live, and even if they trace me down, they still have to contend with the protection I have placed on the house.

Also I have my "gear" protected with my homeowner's insurance and how I would miss my Fender, I could replace it.

I have had a guitar and amp stolen from me in the past and it sucks. Especially back then because it was not protected.

rk...I know exactly how you feel. 30 years ago my home was broken into and it left me feeling violated. Now I have enough " back up " to stop any intruders. Thieves leave the law abiding citizens with no choice but to arm themselves. If they choose to enter someones home then they have to be prepared to accept the consequences. I`m putting my instruments on my home owners policy this week just to protect myself.

I've never had a break in, but I was raised on the principal, "If you own it, it's yours to protect".

Here in Texas you have to post no trespassing signs on the property first, that way if they get out of your house with your stuff (but still on the property) you can still shoot them. Oh, and beware of dog signs on the fence, in case the dog gets them in the backyard. That way they cannot sue you when the dog rips them a new butt. Once they are in the house, they are fare game regardless.

Mine aren't worth a whole lot, so they'd be more trouble to sell than they'd be worth. I'd probably get more in insurance--even after a deductible, than the thief would get selling them.

Precautions are still a good idea.

I'm not worried about it, I just find it amusing how you said not to let people know what you have in your home, but then you let people know what you have in your home. I also find it amusing that people will list gear in signatures because if I had a million dollars in cash in my house, I wouldn't tell anyone, yet some people (potentially) tell the whole world what valuables they have in their house or in their possession through various forums and other things/places on the internet...yes, most of the times its probably harmless, but would you have a checklist at your front door telling anyone who walks by or up to your door what is inside your house? Would you wear a sticker that just said you cashed a check and have all the money in your wallet after going to the bank? Thats what I find amusing...Don't tell anyone what you have in your house, but here's what I have in mine...Protect your valuables, by the way, I don't know you but heres a list of some of the valuables I have  Yes, chances are no one will mess with you, but why put it out there and give them a reason to mess with you if they were looking to mess with someone?

But thats just me. By all means, post what you want, I just try to avoid the hassles of assaults and homicides (even if they are justifiable), crooks, cops, court, hospitals, doctors, and/or lawyers whenever possible...

Better Bow ?...I removed the list just not to listen to you rant, not in fear of a break in. My home is well protected. I originally posted that warning so everyone is aware of what is going on, not to be picked apart by another member. If thats the thanks I get for trying to help, next time I`ll think twice.
