Awhile back, there was a thread that discussed the large total number of people registered to the Forums as compared to the much smaller number of active users. I think that some of these contests have brought in new members and energized inactive members who in turn brought their bad habits with them that they acquired from other forums. In fact, it is due to the influx of new members that I am now familiar with the term "troll". My thanks to those who assisted me.

I've noticed many more members with just a handful of posts starting new threads on subjects discussed many times before (maybe improvements to the "search" function would help). Also, the backlash against polls was shortlived. After this latest contest there are more polls than ever usually started by newer members.

Let's just keep on doing what we're doing. We've tamed rogue users before . . . just not in these numbers.

Shall we all join in on a rousing chorus of Kumbaya? :)

Seriously, life is hard enough on its own. Lets use this forum for what it was intended, camaraderie and talking about guitars and music and junk. It is okay to post off topic on the Fender Lounge forum for that was it's intent. But lets be civil. There is enough negativity out in the world, lets not bring it in here.

Thus endeth my sermon!

From Bill and Ted: "Be excellent to each other!"

I feel that when you open up the forum for 24 hours and then you just recently had a contest where people could win just for posting, you will get a lot more new members, and possibly, or consequently, more mindless traffic and clutter. I know some people like the forum being open 24 hours, personally it seemed to me like when it was open only for certain hours that it seemed that people were a bit more in check when they were only allowed to post within certain hours, perhaps out of fear that the already limited hours would become more limited if they did not obey the rule? Or thats my theory on it.

Also, I enjoyed many aspects of the 2009 Kickoff Giveaway, and its great that it brought in many new members, but the contest also created a lot of new useless posts...I think that because of all the useless posts that were being made at that time, there may be some people who think that mindless posting and chatter is normal here when its not. As far as the negativity, I haven't seen much of that personally, but that stuff is not cool either, and its stuff like that which keeps me from going to Harmony Central often, because 90% of those forums seem to be:
-Whatever gear you have, sucks.
-Whoever your influences are, suck.
-Whatever question you may have, I don't know the answer, but you are more stupid for not knowing the answer.
-Whatever product you are asking about, I have no experience with, but you should use this because I use it and its the best, otherwise you suck.
-If you have a question about a effect pedal, your tubes suck.
-If you ask a question about tubes, you will be told your choice of effects suck.
-Ask a question about an amp, someone will say you need new pickups cause your old ones suck.

So as long as the Fender Forum doesn't get to the ridiculous level of negativity that can often be found and seen at Harmony Central, I don't think its too bad....

+1...I noticed that also and you can tell how the number of posts have dropped since the contest ended. During those 3 days the forums were flooded, now their not.

Like many others here, I blame the recent "membership drive" contest. Some people just don't know how to behave in polite society.

The Forum has many, many members. As the Forum's population demographic increased, likely so did the number of extreme personality types at all points on the bell curve.

The only people to blamed are the one's doing the postings. No one else. Each person is responsible for what they do or say. We can not blame the Forum just because some people don't have respect for others or are not mature enough to be a part of this community.

I visit this Forum daily, however I hardly ever post. I have obtained a ton of information from this Forum. I respect the experience of others here, which, in most cases, is quite a bit more than mine. I have in some way been involved with music most of my life. Whenever I speak to other musicians face to face, I rarely receive negative comments or feedback. Most times, the conversation is positive and helpful. Therefore, why can't that be conducted here?

I have viewed a few posts here and thought, "This guy's an idiot" and moved on. I will not glorify idiocracy by wasting my time with it. I have much more important things to do with my life.

I agree... The forum was a pretty cool place until that last contest.

I am new to the forum as well. It does seem that there are people who only want to pick a fight. Fortunately, it appears to be a select few.

I do get tired of some who think because you like "x" over "y" you are an idiot. I post some facts and statements here and there. At some point people will put a rebuttal I normally don’t reply to those, because I am not sure yet of who is try to goad me into a fight and who is offering a discussion of a different point of view.

Most of what is posted here is opinion. My opinion is no more or less valid than anybody else, or more correct. Opinions are like _____... We all have one and think that everyone else’s stinks.

I think/hope every language has a saying, or at least an unwritten acknowledgement, like that.

Also I disagree with the statement that this forums should only be about Fender Products, though this is ofcourse its prior use.

Like rkeisher, I'm most certainly not a guitar-master, but I try to help people, and that's what important in these forums, on the internet, in life.

Negativity attracts negativity.
Just be aware of how you act and treat others.

"You can't respect others if you haven't learned to respect yourself" - Gramma

I think this is a GREAT forum. I enjoy the ppl here. And I think a lot of subjects have come up that could have easily erupted into a flame war. I find this place vry tolerant and civil.

If someone starts something or is starting a bait fest - I'll just ignore the thread.
