I don't see how a Forum that encourages discussion about songcraft could be anything but positive. It wouldn't have to be a place to sell or even promote professional work, but a place for amatures to exchange ideas would be really cool.

Not to repeat myself, but...

As a subject for discussion, songwriting has nothing to do with Fender guitars. Fender runs this site to promote their products.

There are dozens of songwriting boards all over the Interweb where you can share recordings, lyrics and critiques with other songwriters.

If you want to post videos of your band, there's more than enough YouTube to go around.

Why should Fender waste their bandwidth?

Fender sells tools that songwriters use, so it would very much be in their interest, and they already "Waste Bandwidth" on discussions like John Mayer VS Big Bird, so I don't see how a forum that discusses songwriting could be a waste? We're not talking about hosting peoples original material, just discussing it.

Talking about posting videos on Youtube, a Songwriters forum would be a good place to post links to your youtube video, or a link to your song on Myspace. These things already get posted in the Fender Lounge, a Songwriters forum would just keep them int he same place. No extra Bandwitdth to speak of.

And why Fender's site instead of some other sonwriters discussion forum. The same reason I don't discuss guitars at HC or anyplace else. This place is well moderated and full of people I've met here, who's opinions matter more than most other online opionions.

Ah C'mon Stratmansteve, you can do it. Some of the best song writers lacked vocal chops. Dylan, Springsteen, Petty, The Beatles. Just hit the notes, let the audience decide if you're good or not.

You say that now because you haven't heard me . . . and you probably never will!

The Beatles ?!?

Well, I hope we get to hear one of your songs, whoever's singing it.

I was afraid that beatles comment ruffle a feather of two. They all write and sing Great Songs, but I really only like George's singing.

How would it work? Would we post demo recordings? Post just the lyrics? Exchange songwriting tips? All of the above? None of the above?

Fender wouldn't have to host any demos or files at all. Just like now when someone is trying to get noticed in the lounge, just a link to the song or a youtube video of the writer playing the song. There's a lot of that going on at Youtube already.

In my personal opinion this is a Forum for Fender Instrument discussion, not song writing. There are plenty of other places on the internet for that.
