How many of you guys use alternate tunings? Whats your fav?

Mine is DADGAD. Rings like a dream. Lot's of great songs from that tuning. I just love to blast out some "Kashmir" and see the look on peoples faces.

For slide work, and I rarely play slide, I use an open G. What do you use?

I love playing a 1/2 step down, but I can't seem to get the tuning just right. I have an electronic tuner that shows EADGBE and that's it, so I've been holding down the first fret and tuning to E. Do you know a better way to go about it? Thanks!

Drop the first string down to D.
Then start tearing up some Rolling Stones tunes.
Paint it Black, Rock & a Hard Place, etc.

On guitar DADGAD for slide :D

On bass I like playing in CFBD (down two steps) and DGCE (one step).

The most used are drop D and open D for slide work.

My favorite is E susp.

My faves are Open G, Open D, Open A and Open E...and those same tunings, except set as a minor (e.g., Open Dm, etc.).

I also like to drop the little E down to D and goof off with that.
I have a "secret" tuning that I call South Side China tuning...some sympathetic strings and an off-kilter triad...sounds cool.

Drop D, Open C, Half a step down.

Sometimes I like to put a capo at a random fret and tune there to see how it turns out.

I love alternative tuning. but I always forget what's what and screw up. I need about 3 guitars, each with its own capo. What slide I know I learned from my Grandpa Long ago. You know, he played with his hand on to Top of the the neck, and used a solid steal slide. :)
