I actually wish I could play better without a pick. There's nothing wrong with not using one. I hold the pick wrong (upside down, SRV style) because that's what's most comfortable for me. Do what's best for you, doesn't matter what people say about it.

You should play the way you feel comfortable. I've tried both pick and no pick (classical guitar) and I prefer hybrid (using the pick and fingers when needed).

Keep experimenting and play the way you like and maybe you will find an advantage and a new technique.

Yeah, I like using Fender Thin picks, but freestyle is great too.

you see i think of it as why use one pick when you could use 5 fingers haha because i like playing a lot of complicated stuff that you cant do with your hand occupied by the pick (classical) and it was also the way i was raised my dad always told me that the people that use picks are wusses but i disagree haha (not meaning anything negative about my dad)

Well, in a way it's true. It does take an added level of skill to play fingerstyle.

Tell the people who say its stupid or crazy to check out Mark Knoppfler or Derek trucks, and then say that.

I play as often without a pick as I do with. Well, maybe more, I tend to drop picks once and a while. So even if I start out a song with a pick, it doesn't mean i'll finish with one!

I actually improved my pick-free playing by being too lazy to go buy any. I had a bunch of packs of strings, and it was hard to motivate myself to go just for picks when I could play without em.

I started on classical, so I have no problem using my fingers--but for certain things I prefer a pick--and so I use one more than my fingers--although recently I have been using my fingers more, as I have gotten more serious about learning slide. And it just works better.

I alternate between pick and non pick depending on the type of song, what sound I'm trying to get, finesse vs attack. I think it makes one a more well rounded guitar player when you can use both successfully

I can play with or without picks. I prefer with and when I do I use V-Picks.

Depends on what I'm doing.

I can't claw-hammer some things and get a warm fingerstyle sound with a pick, and I also can't play super fast with just my fingers.

So I do both - to cover all areas of guitar playing I want to cover. It shouldn't be and either-or thing. You're just boxing yourself in if you think that way.

I like a medium pick with rubber grip. Been using the same exact one for a year and a half now. It's very comfortable.

But yeah, play however you like to play. Personally, I like my rubber pick. :D
