It all depends on what sound you are looking for. Different sounds for songs.

Can't really answer that without some context. For instance, solid body isn't likely to hit a classic jazz tone. But by the same token, I wouldn't want to try speed metal on my Guild X150D full size jazz box with 12s.

Even within a genre, the question has no absolute answer. Chicago blues masters tended to (and certainly not all, or all the time) go for a semi- hollow tone ala a 335. But it seems to me that a large number of Texas bluesmen go for solid - Strats very popular there.

In orchestral/big band type playing, I doubt you'll find too many solid body players. The list could go on and forum members could find exceptions to every thing I'd come up with (the hard rocker who uses a warm sounding hollow; the jazz master who uses a Tele). So beyond even the genre and sub-genre, there's the players themselves and what they want to sound like.

If I had to take a wild guess -- the forum seems to have a fair number of rockers and blues types so I don't think you're going to get an overwhelming answer in any one direction.

The question is too vague. You need to tell us what sound you are looking for. :?:

Hey, he's gotta start somewhere. Cut him some slack.

It all depends on what kind of music you play. Personally, I play a Stratocaster which is a solid body. Go try the different types of guitars and see what you like best.

Depends on what I am playing. Since I play mostly Metal and some Blues, I like playing on solid body guitars. But I do love the sound of a hollow body for Old School Blues as well.

I feel that everyone should own one hollow or semi hollow body, They have a great feel and tone. Next to my Strat my favorite guitar is my 1965 Univox HR-2 "lawsuit" hollow body.

It's an ES-335 knockoff

Fantastic tone, and one of the best playing necks i've played.

Just go to your music store and try some Hollows out. Both solid and hollow have different sounds.
