Hey everyone I have a question for you. I'm new to playing (just got a starcaster for xmas) and have started to learn basic chords and was wondering when you were new what chords gave you the most trouble? I know this sounds corny but I seem to have trouble getting g,g7,f i keep buzzing strings. I'm not complaining cause i will get it just wondering if i'm nuts or they are hard at first. thanks!

My first chord song was from the Animals: House of the Rising Sun.
Am C D F. I had the most trouble with the bar of two notes in the F. I thought it was impossible, but now I play normal bars, F-style, like Jimi did, all the time!

What you're experiencing is completely normal. Give it a few weeks - if you keep at it you will develop your finger and hand strength and those chords will start to sound good.

Try bending your wrist outward a bit, your fingers will clear the strings better.

Def the F chord was the hardest one, those two bar notes seem like an impossible combo for ahwile. Once you get it though you'll realized that you can go up two frets and use the same formation for a G, than two more for an A, things start to make sense after awhile.

Barre chords and open G. perseverance won in the end though.

I remember using my right hand to position my left hand fingers properly for the mini-barre on the f chord when I first started. just keep plugging away, your hand will get stronger and more flexible.

The first time I played a barre chord successfully, pain shot from the back of my hand all the way up to my shoulder! It gets better with time.

For me it took a little while, but suddenly you'll realize you turned the corner.
Just have to remember fretting isn't really a common motion, so you need to train your muscles for a whole new kind of movement. Also fretting is usually done with the non dominant hand, so it is less used to performing these fine-controlled motions. i am a lefty that plays right, and even though i used my dominant hand for fretwork, I still had to strengthen it through practice.

You will also notice your hands will at some point stop getting tired, and you will be able to play longer.

Guitar, like anything that takes a little bit of skill, has a learning curve.

You can't expect to just pick it up and be playing as good as your heroes. I made that mistake when I first decided I wanted to play, and over 10 years later, I'm still not as good as I would like to be, evidenced by the fact that I'm not on mainstream radio or tv (Which could just mean that the record industry doesn't know talent.....).

Keep at it, keep at it, keep at it.

It seems a long time ago now but I can remember F giving me the most grief at the start and I was the rhythm player in the first group.
I kept at it and got there in the end. We all know what you mean.
Keep at it pal, you'll get there we've all been through the pain.
It's worth it in the end. :D
