Any of you musicians out there that gig regularly flirt with the opposite sex while you're on your breaks in between sets?

I've found that flirting and appearing single tends to get girls to come back to see the band more, but the new girl I'm talking to seems to not think this is a good idea. I keep trying to tell her that the more people come to see the show, the better I get paid, which equals more money I make (aka, the more I can spend on her), but she just doesn't understand.

Help? Suggestions?

Is that how you met her? if so I think she understands all too well.

I will flirt with women any single chance I get. Holding a guitar makes it easier, that's all. I will say, it doesn't hurt to be in a band that gets women to the show. if its a 'sausage party' all the time, then pretty soon no one will come.

No. I met her THROUGH the band, but not at a show.

When I was asked to be in the new band, I went to meet the singer at a karaoke night, and she's one of his really good friends. (He would have liked to make her more, but sadly, didn't have the skills.)

Oh they understand, we'd all be better off if they didn't

They love flirting unless you do it.

Honestly, I'm not sure HOW he feels about it. He's afraid of making me mad, cause I came with one of the best drummers in the area, so because of me, he's hooked up with one of the best rhythm sections he can.

As for her, I've got her trained, she's almost everything a musician could want. She helps me get set up before we play, and she helps me tear down after we're done. Other than her not understanding that I can't spend my entire night with her, that I have to "socialize" with the crowd to keep them coming back.

well if she dont like it then she dont have to be there the way i see it is she either helps with setup and breakdown and stays the whole time or just dont come and dont worry about you "socializing" but thats just my opinion and knowing her type (woman) she probably wont want to leave you alone with anyone else  but thats just my opinion haha

How would you feel if your girlfriend or wife was flirting with other men ? Put the shoe on the other foot then ask yourself that same question. I`m married 35 years and you either walk a straight line or learn how to dodge a left hook.

as a girl, I find it extremely attractive when a guy plays a guitar! But I prefer guys with short hair and not the usual metal type kind of thing (long hair, not shaved for weeks, earrings/tattoos everywhere! etc), so... :P

the point is there'll always be girls who will be flirting with the band... that's ok as long as you don't get too far with them!

Yeah ditch her. Do you really want your band to be followed around by some 'knuckle dragger' who cant understand the basic principles of gigging.

Imagine the scene in 5 years.

You get to your sizable gig somewhere classy and nice. Your led to your airconditioned dressing room with your personal assistant carrying your favourite guitar behind you. You get into the dressing room thats more like a entertainment comlex and are presented witha bottle of champaign. As you sip the champers you hear an unusuall noise from outside. You look out the window to see a horde of cave women that resemble Jane Fonda about as much as your typical Blackburn Rovers supporter. Their hitting eachother with clubs and 'ug ug'ing away. You suddenly realize the groupies are more of a man than you. You've unleashed a gang of braindead neanderthal groupies upon the world

Other than that my rule of thumb is, 'be friendly, kind and open but always maintain a distance from fans'. It will lead to better peace of mind for you and your family as well as creating a air of intrigue about you.

My wife doesn't get jealous, niether do I typically. And neither of us makes a conscious effort to flirt. We've got a good thing going after 18 years and just know that's not something we have to be concerned about.

Maybe it's our situation in the band, but we're all over 40, most of our wives are at every gig, and most of our "regulars" are married friends of ours that come to see us. I guess we're old and waaaaaay past the meat market stage of life and music.
