What does everyone here do to help with the challenges of cold weather playing?
My house's insulation (lack thereof) sucks, so it's freezing in my house, and it hurts to play... :(
Plus with the dry air, my callouses are cracked and breaking, which adds to the fun :p

Lol, don't make fun of me if you live in a nice climate, I know Oregon sucks in winter, but hopefully I'll be moving (aloha :D) in a few more months.

Thanks -David

Effectively insulate the house; turn the heat on; use a humidifier.

Insulate the house.

You could save enough money in a couple of years to buy a new guitar, and you will be more comfortable.

Hahahahahaha. Being one of the two or so Alaskans on the forum...

Anyway, our weather HAS been pretty weird. Less than a week and a half ago, it was -30 F (which is on the coldish side of normal this time of year) but is now in the 40's. 70 F difference, guys, that's insane!

Seems to me, we stole your heat.

And trust me, I'm not sure if it's a good thing. With all the ice melting, I can't walk on the lake anymore. Also, roads are terrible. Just yesterday, my mom was begging me to come home from band practice because she had just gotten in a car crash with a road sign, seperate from a four car pileup just over the hill. All the melting snow is turning to water, and a thin layer of water over a good patch of ice is waaayy dangerous.

Don't get me started on black ice.

Anywho, something might need to happen here...

I play indoors, 70 degrees, and some times I put on a sweat shirt. We have 10 inches of snow outside.

Before you go to bed. put vasoline on your fingers and hands, and put on latex gloves when you sleep, this will soften the cracks up, then trim the edges of the cracks, and they will heal faster that way.

I'm in southern Oregon too, out on the coast and the chill can be a bit much. Not as bad as inland, for sure!

I just insulated my house last summer and my heat bill is way better this year! Went with 'green' insulation to keep nasty chemicals out of my closed environment.

Used to play with a little Titan portable space heater which would def cut the chill. Haven't had to use it once this winter!

Wearing warm boots or goose down booties helps too. If my feet are warm I find the rest of me stays comfy too!

Nice thing not mentioned on this site about the Fender Hotrod Deluxe Guitar Combo amp is the higher you play the hotter the tubes get which also helps to keep me warm and playing the Strat like there's no tommorow keeps me glowing  Amazing once the jam gets going I'll open the windows to let the 20 degree chill cool me off ;) sometimes it pisses the neighbors off so I don't reccomend this at three in the morning...pleasant playing

Find some paintball gloves, or some other kind of gloves that don't necessarily have full fingers?

Also, a nice hat will keep your head warm, and I've found that keeping my head warm tends to make the rest of me feel warmer too, so invest in a nice Fender fedora.

They sell space heaters, I have an electric one. They do use a lot of electricity but I turn it on and warm up the area then shut it off. It gets warm enough and your able to play without your fingers freezing.

my winter demotivation is not about guitar playing - on the contrary, I love it more in the winter!
But I've been working out at home since the past year and when the winter strikes, I find it hard to motivate myself...so on to March!

Ya cold days is a pain, we have been having a cold snap for a while and -20 to -30 are not uncommon lately :(
I try to NOT go out in that if at all possible,

But find in this extreme cold the humidity indoors is harder to control and maintain in the range guitars like to sit in..
