I read in Guitar One (April 2007), that the Jazz III (Jim Dunlop)pick could make you a better player. Since it's been a couple of years I wonder:
Has anyone tried this pick and has it helped you?

That is the pick I've been playing for quite some time. Since they are smaller, I can hold them in the crook of my fineger when I tap or chicken pick. My only issue is that they are a little stiff for strumming. So on acoustic, i switch to med. 351.

Make you play better? Only hardwork will do that I'm afraid.

Smaller picks usually mean you have to be a bit more controlled and accurate with your picking, at least this happened in my experiences with smaller picks....

So with more controlled and accurate picking, I guess it could make you a better player...

I read in Guitar World that Dragonforce uses it.

Now, I don't remember if it's Sam Totman or Herman Li...

I don't like them.
Too small.
But I don't like bog picks either.

A lot of it though depends on the size of your hand, your playing style, etc.
But the good thing is most picks are cheap--gp buy one & check it out.
It may be the pick or you. If not, you didn't have to pay that much to find out.

i have tried these picks and have discovered that if you need to play a bit of fast notes, a fast passage, they reduce "drag" if you will

Thanks for all the response!
I just went out and bought them(and fender picks)
They are really small, may be hard to keep up with since I lose the big ones too!! I will try them out later!
Thanks guys

I bought a few jazz III picks a while ago after I read John Petrucci's praise for them. I found that they did help my picking somewhat, but they were not to good for fast hard rock chord playing. My band plays some Ramones songs and after using jazz III picks, I discovered that the fleshy area right below my index fingernail on my pick hand was nearly raw. Ultimately, I went back to the standard dunlop tortex picks.

You might want to give these a try:

I liked them because they have a nice point like the jazz picks, but the full body of the standard Tortex, perfect for accuracy and aggression
