Ceri,

Right. Jason Bonham on drums. That is the best guitar solo I've heard from Joe so far.

btw... Where can I hear your music, Ceri? Do you have anything on Youtube?

Thanks,

Joe[/quote]

Hi Joe. Hehe - no, nothing there at the moment. It's kind of a feeding frenzy of brutality when people post stuff there, isn't it?

...Just came across a cassette of my first ever gig, as it happens. You'll never be hearing that one, I can assure you!

Cheers - C

I got a hold of some Joe Bonamass last year and liked what I heard. 8) It would seem from what I'm seeing here I'll have to make a point to get out to see him this year.

Love Him! Check out one of the dozen or so versions of him doing Just Got Paid Today on Youtube. He gets into the solo and departs from the Pentatonic scales and just takes the song in a completely cool direction.

There's a reason BB King said that Joe was so good it scared him.

I must agree, This is the first time I have seen Joe Bonamassa and he
is an excellent blues player.
Thanks DBluesN for sharing this youtube link. Great player and a nice
Les paul and cool rig too but he needs to forget the SRV thing and break
out the Fender Strat and / or Tele.. 8)

'Zactly! I'm sure as soon has the Gibson Signature deal has receded into the past a bit the Fenders will reappear in his hands.

Incidentally: I only just found out about that Albert Hall gig in May, but my wife knew about it well before Christmas and has been trying to get tickets since then (been sold out for a while, it seems). Frustrating if I can't get into that show - but cool wife, huh?

Cheers - C

I like Joe, but I think I know what you're saying. There's something I can't put my finger on. I suspect it isn't something in his music, but something that ISN'T in his music.

I love the Blues and I see the music drifting toward Rock. Some Blues Rockers tend to be more Rock than Blues these days which may or may not be a bad thing. As a youngster, I was drawn to Blues-based Rock before I even knew what the Blues was or why I liked what I was hearing.

In any case, for those of you who haven't heard his music, you can get a free download of "Dirt In My Pocket" courtesy of the honorable competition at:

http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/FreeMusic/Default.aspx

Just type Joe B in the search box and download the file. Enjoy!

[MAY 5TH] Just reviving this old thread: back in January (above) I found that Joe Bonamassa was announced to play the Albert Hall in London - but the show had sold out in hours and I couldn't get tickets.

However. A few days ago my wife revealed that she had got tickets and had just carelessly forgotten to mention it all these months. Cool missus!

Just got home from that gig...

We had seats in the fourth row, stageside:

And for those of us who'd like to fantasise about selling out the Albert Hall, this is what it looks like from the (edge of the) stage:
Image

Guest spots by Paul Jones (Manfred Mann) and Eric Clapton. Here's a link to a vid I took of Joe and Eric blues-ing it up. Be warned, this is my first ever attempt at shooting a video and I couldn't work out how to use the zoom on my wife's little Fuji Finepix - or how to switch it off at the end. And the sound leaves much to be desired...

Not to worry: the show was filmed for a forthcoming DVD...

Cheers - C

Very cool, indeed! And good seats, too!

She forgot to mention she had tickets?!
I'm sure she meant to surprise you.

Ceri, you have a steady hand for a first time filmmaker.

If anyone did not know you can look out for an old broadcast on PBS on Joe Bonamassa AS THEY RERUN IT KNOW AND THEN,They did a documentary on him 10 years ago as a teen prodigy. He was in a band at the time called Bloodline WHICH CONSISTED OF THE OFFSPRING OF Miles Davis,Robby Krieger,I think one of the members of the ALLMANS and some other famous guys kid.And his guitar teacher at the time was DANNY GATTON.I remember DANNY showing him his signature GREY TELE he just got from Fender the one he uses in his HOT LICKS DVD.It s a really cool show if you catch it.
