My big brother got me in to playing guitar. I remember sitting on the floor in his room just listening when he played songs from Hendrix, Clapton etc.
Good times :)

Flea was the one that made me want to pick up a bass and mike watt is the one that keeps me wanting to continue.

This guy who lived next door named Craig Manning had this beautiful LP Standard and showed me a basic blues riff. Which I thought was awesome, but it wasn't until I heard Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream did I actually get full blown inspired. absolutely amazing album. Then I saw the SP home video Vieuphoria and saw Billy Corgan could really play, and cemented the electric guitar and more importantly the Fender Stratocaster. Billy played a Japanese 57 reissue with lace sensor pickups, I love that guitar.

Howdy all. I've been reading up on the forums, but have only recently begun posting. It's fantastic reading about what drives everyone's love for Fender (and guitars and music in general). Here's my conversation starter:

Who or what band inspired you to pick up a guitar and learn to play? If you compose/write your own music and/or play in a band, what artist inspired you to first get into that?

Pearl Jam was the band that got me playing guitar, Better Than Ezra got me into songwriting, and Belle & Sebastian were who inspired me to get a band together and play out. That makes me a product of the 90's I suppose?

Chuck Robbins, a friend who lent me his Hondo LP clone for a few weeks. I bought a chord book and started plunking away. After I reluctantly returned his guitar, I had to go buy one. So, I bought a Gibson Sonex Deluxe (white), and a Bob Dylan song book. My G.A.S. just took off from there.

If you're still out there Chuck, thanks! 8)
