Squire Strat is an excellent guitar at its price range. But it might be a bit if an unfair comparison with a premium guitar.

No doubt the Squier line up is on the lower end but honestly, if they fit your budget their not bad. I had a Squier Tele that was made in China and the guitar sounded pretty good and the fret board was nicely made. I had a Strat knock off at one time that was made so poorly the frets tore up your fingers because the edges were not filed down. I sold that guitar within a month of getting it.

There many different models (from low to high):
Affinty, Bullet, Standard, Deluxe, Classic Vibe, Vintage Modified

But more importantly, how well is the setup? A bad setup can make a nice guitar sound and play badly.

Most novices don't understand about set-ups.

I got my first guitar, an Ibanez roadstar II froma friend for a song, cus he hated it. I hated it at first too, then a very knowledgable friend set it up for me. it was night and day. i couldn't believe how much easier it was to play, and how much better it felt and sounded. all he did was adjust some screws!!

Later after he had moved it needed some electronics work, it had been rewired, and some of the stuff was just taped with electrical tape!!

I guess it took me a while to knock it loose. Anyway i took it in to a tech, at a well known shop, he rewired it, and decided to throw in a set-up. well, he almost ruined that guitar. the wiring was terrible, it was a 2 humbucker config with coil taps, and neither of those worked anymore. the action was terrible, and he fiddled with the truss rod, and twisted the neck.

So I took the guitar apart and fixed it myself. i had to get books from the library 9later bought some.) used my dad's woodworking shop, and had the neck in a press for a long time. Geez sorry got off-topic a bit.

Oh wait this kinda ties back in. While my guitar was apart, I borrowed a friends Squire Bullet. It was super cheap, but I really liked the way it played, definately a great value for the money. better than the other budget brands available where I was (like Degas, and some other one starting with V,) I think it was actually the first push i got to a strat. no one I knew had one, it was like a dream/wishful thinking thing to have a legendary "Strat" :D

For the money it's good guitar but if you don't ask for good sound quality.
