The two strats and tele both received a great review in the febuary edition of Guitarist magazine. A few quotes-

Concerning the 50's tele
" Captures the essence of an old guitar in looks and feel, with a modern yet classic range of sounds".

Concerning the 50's strat
"Quite simply a great strat. It looks and feels like its already had a life and is ready for much more".

Concerning the 60's strat
"This one has it all - feel and sound, a great neck and firm tonality. A strat to love and cherish".

Based on what i've read any misgivings i've had about their price are dispelled. The review itself is a good read. Theres a nice piece on the origins of the relic, with some manufacturing photo's and some info from Justin Norvell Fenders marketing director. Theres also some other info regarding construction such as, " The necks are MIA, finished (and presumably fretted) in mexico" That should throw a few people in years to come. Also "This project has custom shop master builder supervision. Its a great collaborative thing".

I'll be off to try one out on monday.

Can you find this review online, or is it only in the magazine?

Its only in the magazine. I was thinking about scanning the pages and posting them here before i realized it could infringe copyright. So i just took the best bits.

I have been thinking about visiting a shop to check out the hype. Not really into the "relic" thing, but have read good reviews on the playability and tone.

Yeah, I got to handle a few of the new Road Worn gits today. The relic'ing was performed quite well. They're pretty cool guitars. The relic thing is not for me, personally ... but they still get filed under "pretty cool".

Im quite looking forwards to handling one too. Theres a trip to luton planned tommorow to get to try one. Whats got my curiosity pipped is the 'master builder supervision' statement made by Justin Norvell. The guitars themselves are based on the classic 50's and 60's series with some differences notably a vintage styled trem (2point trems are the one reason i never bought a deluxe). I believe mexican guitar quality has risen expodentialy in the last 7 years, due somewhat to the pride of the mexican workers. This guitar is a great way for em to show off. The review does start with the line 'the custom shop could of shot themselves in the foot'. The relic work my be a bit generic from guitar to guitar. But hey a bit of gigging, give it the kids to play on for a bit, and you've soon got a individual guitar.
