I have started to experiment with open G tuning. I am beginning to understand why I like certain songs.

Anybody on the forum use this very much?

I have not. I have been thinking about giving it a try though. Will changing the tuning require new fingerings for chord shapes?

The only thing I have tried is the intro to the Stone's Honky Tonk Woman, it appears that some of the shapes remain the same just played farther up the neck. I'm sure there are a lot of other on this forum more qualified to answer your question than me. I just like the way it sounds.

btw the I'm been using a Les Paul Jr. knockoff that I keep tune to open G, has just a singe Humbucker.

Of course - the strings no longer have the same relation to one another as they do in standard tuning.

Does anybody know of a site that list the chord shapes for the different tunings?

Open G was the first open tuning I was comfortable with, and is still my primary "Open Tuned Guitar" tuning. It opens a whole world of songs to learn and so many of the songs you learned in Standard tuning that should be in Open G are gonna seem new and more fun than ever.

A Lot of Zeppelin, ZZ Top, Black Crowes, and Clapton are in Open G. And the Banjo's often tuned to Open G, so you'll be able to make a banjo do something, which is rewarding on so many levels.
