This is the album that really turned me on to JC. I always liked some of his hits, but I agree with others...one of the best live discs ever.

"Folsom Prison Blues" is classic Cash. I loved reading the stories about his 'concerns' about performing in a high security prison.

My dad had that album. I kind of grew up on it. Loved "A Boy Named Sue", seeing as how that was my name, too. I actually got to see Johnny in concert in Reno shortly before he died. You can imagine how the crowd roared for "Folsom Prison Blues" and the line "I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die..."
Good album choice. Enjoy!

Ha! I don't think so. But mom and dad never did tell me why they chose the name Susan.
All this time on these forums makes me think I need to spend some quality time with my Strat tonight...

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P Johnny Cash is great in my eyes.

Now you're talking about one of my earliest influences, and that goes back 50 years right backt to the release of "I Walk The Line", Luther Perkins and all.

TBH it saves me paying out like £50-100 for single pedals

An amazing album

And what magic a band could do, without idiotic screaming distortion, thousands of watts, millions of $$$$ in effects and lights.

Pure emotion, sincerity, musicianship.

Quality.

Now, suggestion is to go buy "Hot August Night" for another pretty good live concert.

Back in the 60s, when I was a teen living in my father’s home, my brother and I had a great collection of albums (as in LPs, of course). One of us had the “Folsom” album, the other had the “San Quentin” album. Great stuff. Our collection was quite an eclectic mix. Along with Cash, we had the Beatles, Moody Blues, Gordon Lightfoot, Simon & Garfunkel, Hendrix, CCR, et al.

This love of music that transcended genre barriers we got from our parents, particularly our Dad. He had been playing guitar for 20 years by the time I started, and we shared a love of Chet Atkins, the Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul & Mary, Gordon Lightfoot, Simon & Garfunkel, Hank and Cash.

Hi fellas, I have been working at Folsom Prison for the past 17 years as a correction officer. There is a lot of history there especially when Johnny played there in January of 1968. And at the Folsom Prison museum outside the 30 foot granite walls you can buy photos of Johnny Cash when he played there. Cool stuff!

I agree, what an awesome dvd. I think it is one of my all time favorites. And one of my favorite guitar players was Luther Perkins.
