Hi!
I'm 16. I'm from Ukraine. Well, I don't know have you ever heard 'bout it :).

Deep Purple is one of my favorite bands. But music channels in my country are kind of... primitive (no, there are good bands, but not many... :? ). I think that some of you people can tell me many interesting 'bout DP, because in my town not many people knows that band... its sad for me...

So, hope I'll find new friends in this forum: if you like this band too, please right me - travelwolf@ukr.net

I will answer every letter.

Hi Travelwolf, There are lots of guys in this forum that know all kinds of things, just post away and ask. You will be made very welcome.
I can tell you one thing about Deep Purple. They were on record once as being the LOUDEST band in the world.
The Guiness Book of Records said so.
Anyway, welcome here and have fun. All the best.
Cheers :D

Welcome aboard. I used to be a Deep Purple fan until Ritchie Blackmore left the band. They're just not the same with Steve Morse on guitar IMO.

Recently, one man told me that DP are nothing without Richie... But I can't agree with him, because I saw Steavie's solo concert and i think that he... well... he CAN play. Also I liked so mush DP's concert in London in 1999. I think it was the best concert where Steve Morse took part, don't you think?

Oh yes, but if you know, please tell me: WHY did Richie Blackmore quit Deep Purple and when?

I think you have knowledge.
P. S. It's more interesting if somebody is telling it... :D

From what I understand he left the band in 1975. Thats when he joined the band Rainbow. I think in 1985 he reunited with Deep Purple. I think somewhere in the early nineties he left Deep Purple again and reformed Rainbow. I don't think he and Ian Gillian got along too well.

Did you know Blackmore started as a session guitarist?
And he got his first Strat off Eric Clapton's roadie.
:D

I never knew that. Not to change the subject or anything but there have been alot of great session guitarists in the past that never got the credit they deserved. :)

Very interesting information... I thought that he was jumping between Rainbow and Deep Purple for 1 or 2 years. But ten!

My uncle still is one of the greatest fans of DP (and Rainbow, I think :? ). One year ago he lefted Ukraine and went to Poland. He has all albums of DP, but he take all them there. Now he's living abroad. He's coming back on holidays only...
Once I've found three cds that he doesn't take (for time): one of them was album by Ian Gillan and Roger Glover(I don't know what year... :( ). I thought that it must be also albums with Paice, Lord, Blackmore/Morse.

Do you know something 'bout that?

That is soooo true! Steve Cropper from Booker T and MG's was a big time session guitarist. As was Jeff Skunk Baxter from Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers.

Of course the majority of Steely Dan's musicians were sessions players. Jeff Baxter made quite a great living as a session guitarist and still is quite active. Did you know that Jeff's next door neighbor worked for the US Navy as a scientist working on missiles at Port Hueneme, CA. Jeff was so interested in it, he is now a self taught missile expert that the government calls on regularly for consultation. How wild is that?

I have far too much useless information rattling around in my brain!

By the way Flanker35, welcome to the Lounge!

Always good to see a Spinal Tap reference!

Also, Smoke on the Water is the most played first song for beginning guitarists. I can honestly say I don't know one guitarist that doesn't know that song. Now talk about an influence! :)

If we are talking about Steve Morse, then, yeah ... he can play. Man, that dude can really play. I have seen Morse on numerous occasions. The first time was seeing the Dregs way back in the '80s (that was a near religous experience). Then I saw him at this remote biker bar in north Connecticut ... a place that had only booked bad cover bands and accomodates maybe 75 people. Man, he ripped the roof off of that place.
