Actually, I was asking myself the same question the other day, looking at models like the hardtail Strat, the Strat-O-Sonic, the Tele-Sonic, the TC-90, all the Guild electrics.... :?
Well, I guess it's about economic darwinism, some species have to go, no matter how cool they are. :(

darvin said that weakest species will fade away forever ... I really don't think that Fender Big Block Start is weak guitar, moreover I would say that it's the best looking strat of every start I saw in my life ...

I will buy this guitar if anyone know something where I can get it or maybe someone want to sell it ... I'll buy it ... my e-mail addres is in my forst post in here ...

HAWK!

but I still don't have rational explanation WHY Big Block Start is no longer in production ...

any rational explanation ...

I'm little bit angry about it ... I was looking for my new guitar about one and a half year ... a lot of guitars tested in music stores a lot of hours playing different types of guitars Epiphones , Ibanez, Schecters, Fenders, LAG, Cort, PRS and more ... Some PRS, and some Fenders and Epiphone LP (Black Beauty) were the best guitars I had in my hands during this period ... I decided to buy Fender Lone Star - HSS (beautiful looking and sound guitar) .. and one day before I was going to buy it I found BIG BLOCK STRAT on the internet ... $@!& man !!! I just knew that this guitar is made for me ... this combination of LP (markers), black&chrome design, lovely pickups ... everything about this guitar was perfect for me ... then I read some users opinions and I felt on deep love with Big Block ...
after all i stared to looknig for this guitar and I found NOTHING! I thought maybe in Poland ( I live here) we don't have this guitar but for sure somewhere there I will find it for sure ... nope... there is no ...

$@!& maan!

I will not buy any guitar but Big Block Strat ... maybe it'll be in 10 years ... I don't care ... I'll play my Squier until I find Big Block ...

I know how you feel; I was lucky enough to buy a Strat-O-Sonic DVII when they first came out, and it is my favorite recording guitar. At the time I was toying with the thought of an SG, but after trying both, the Fender was head and shoulders above the SG for playability, balance, and the sound is great. I am really sorry Fender didn't generate enough sales to keep it going.

Fender often does short runs of cool guitars. Then years later, they do it again. Lets start a letter (or email) campaign to BRING BACK THE BIG BLOCK!

I really liked the Flat Head Tele too

Remember, folks, it'a a business. If you bought one (or two) AND wrote them you promoted it. If you did neither when it first came out, you did nothing to provide them feedback.

And based on all their experiences, it was a short run.

+1: They continually re-invent the wheel to keep rolling along.

There is a Big Block P-bass in production right now if I'm not mistaken...but the return of the Big Block Strat and Tele would be pretty cool. With the so different design from the original Strats/Teles, I'm curious as to how this particular instrument sounds...

I suppose it's a Fender mistake.
