It took me a while to actually post, but here I am, so...

Hi! You can call me Endy.

I've been playing Bass for about three years, since my mother invested and bought a Candy Red Squier P for a certain winter holiday. It took my a while to learn anything more than to fiddle with it, but I really took off when I started applying myself.

The ol' Squier's still in pretty good shape, except for a nasty coat of fingerboard scuzz, probably because it's not coated and hangs onto dirt like a magnet. The strings have deep rivets of finger grime from me rehearsing, and while I do need new strings desperately, i kind of like the P-bass dirtied up, as it gets a very motown flavor, more thump than note, more felt than heard. It's great for when I need to dirty up a bass line, but it's not suited for slap style, as it lacks te necessary definition.

But this Commercialismas, I was lucky enough to be taken out to pick a new one. After trying out a seclection of everything at the local Guitar Centre, (Schecters, Epiphones, Corts, Ibanezes, Washburns, Fenders, Gibsons, Steinbergers, Tobiases and I even Emailed Status GRaphite in England) I set my heart on a Geddy Jazz. unfortunately, it being $999, it was a bit much. Lucky me, I found it at a Best Buy, in one of thier new music stores, for $680! I adore the Geddy, as it's responsiveness, variety, adadptability and clarity are exactly what i need. It can muddy itself down, shine itself up, add all the grunge, funk, grime, fuzz and wah I need. It is a Beaut!

I run a simple setup, with my Squier or my Geddy hooked up through the cable that came with the Squier, into the Rumble15 that came with the squier, and with a Digital Delay/Pitch Shifter/Inversion rig and a guitar Wah pedal. I'll explain the pedals later. But, it lets me do everything I love, in a compact little system. I occasioanlly slap an overdrive switch in too, if i need to be bluesy.

I listen to a lot of Who, U2, Grateful Dead and Rush, and have a certain interest in 70's funk. Because of this wide range of childhood influences, I have a very aggressive, flowing style of playing. That's probably from the Entwistle influence. both Edge and Clayton made a big impact on me, As I love to saturate my bass with effects while keeping it jazzy and 'walking'. I tend to improvise more than play in set patterns, which comes from my experience listening to the dead, and have an affinity for odd metres, from good ol Geddy.

So, I guess I'd rate myself about a B in terms of knowledge, experience and ability. I'm okay, but not the best. But I'd love to learn more. If there's anything you veterans can teach me, I'm at rapt attention.

Anywho, hope to see you around!

Toodles,
Endy

If you decide to clean that fret board, try using Dunlop 65 Lemon Oil. It works pretty good and its good for the board itself.
