Chobey here -

My brother recently left for college, and he took the only tuner of the house with him. That leaves me with a problem: I don't know what tuner to get! I need your help! I want to know what the best tuner on the market is that fits my discription. - - -

- Something that will tell me the same thing twice!

- Easy-to-read display

- Plain and simple, but accurate - Nothing with a bunch of extras that require studing the manual too long. I'm not going to be on on stage or gigging with it. All I need is something that I can tune my guitar with every day. Just as long as it gets me into EADGBE tuning in fine.

- Lastly, something that I can find on eBay for under $25

Thanks,
Chobey

you could use an online tuner for just casual use, not exact, but close... i can't be bothered to look for a real one now, but go to a local music shop, they might have something cheap.... heres a good online tuner

http://www.tunemybass.com/ (its guitar too though)

You can get a fender tuner at Best buy for about $20 .... or best Peterson studio quality one for about $200 at one of the big music e-stores. They probably use the same Made-in-China circuit chip.

I like the Fender tuner pedal. It isn't that expensive, maybe $50 new, so it could be cheaper on Ebay.

I own 2 different tuners:

The first fits in my guitar case - it also has it's own little case. It's a Sabine MT9000 MetroTune Chromatic Tuner and Metronome - $29.95 @ zzounds.com - http://www.zzounds.com/item--SBNMT9000. The Dimensions: 3.95 in., 2.5 in., 0.73 in. (10 cm x 6.3 cm x 1.8 cm). I picked mine up at Guitar Sam in Montpelier, VT.

And the second one is a Fender PT-100 Pedal Tuner (mine is Montego Black) - $44.95 @ Musiciansfriend.com.

I haven't gone looking for one on eBay.

The Boss TU-2 nails it for most pro players. Super accurate and the best and brightest dynamic tuning display lights going short of rack mount units. And of course perfect silencing with a foot tap on the activator button. You'll see them on more stages than anything else. The stars tend to use rackmount units.

I have a few...but from your description, I'd suggest a Korg CA-30. Very reliable, compact and economical (okay...cheap !)

I use my ears mostly! (though it helps having a piano)

If I feel lazy I'll use a cheapy stagg thing that does the trick, available from pretty much every music store out there. Sometimes I'll use a tuner built into Amplitube or a similar peice of software if I have the bass hooked up to me 'book.
