Just an internet tradition of titles and display for regular users.

I was, seriously, in a meeting for work just today where we were discussing the benefit of adding this kind of point system to one of our community sites. The folks from the agency were talking about how it's common on all community sites and the members have come to expect it and will really strive to reach the additional levels.

I smiled to myself as I remembered the "what's the point of the picks" threads I'd seen here. Maybe Fender fans are more clever than the people in other online communities.....

I remember back when I was about 10 or 11 and I'd post a bunch of useless posts and topics to get more posts and watch the little dots next to my name light up. That really annoys me now, so I don't do it anymore.

I don't know why some people have such a hard time understanding the guitar picks...Most of the forums I go to have different levels of "membership" based on how many posts you make, and thats all these pics are...One forum has bronze, silver, gold, platinum...Another has Member, Senior Member, Posting Freak...all are based on how many times you post...Whats the point? There really isn't any...Someone who is a Professional Musician on this forum, may actually just have a few years of playing under their belt, while a Roadie on this forum may actually be a professional musician in real life. Its just a way to keep tabs, for whatever reason, on who contributes or participates in the forum and how often they contribute or post...Nothing more...Once again, I must ask, WHY DO SOME PEOPLE HAVE A HARD TIME UNDERSTANDING THIS? THE FENDER FORUM IS NOT THE FIRST, NOR WILL IT BE THE LAST, FORUM TO DO SUCH A THING....

Heh, they didn't have the internet when I was 10. Come to think of it, they didn't have pushbutton phones, cable TV, remotes and color TV had just barely come on the market.

Oh wait... did I just say all that out loud ...
