Hi, Fender folks, I feel for you in these difficult times.

So far my current job is secure (touch wood) but I went through a bad patch myself when I was made redundant a few years ago. I was looking for 18 months, and my other half left me the very month that I ran out of money because he couldn't handle the stress any more. In the end I made 105 cold calls to businesses in my industry in town, got about 11 interviews, four contract positions, lasting between one week and a few months, and finally landed something good. Still single, still rebuilding, but I did survive, and now have a job I love. And a Stratocaster!

Keep getting up on Monday morning, keep doing everything the books tell you to, let everyone know what you're looking for, and eventually you will get through it, and maybe even on to something better.

And you always have music, and all of us here.

I lost my job in November. I worked for an outsourcer of 401k's until they decided to outsource to India. They still needed to do work in the U.S., though. So, my job was automated. My severance is almost gone. My wife still works, but she suffers from MS, so we don't know how much longer she can go on.

I still have to keep positive, though. I have two teens as well. My wife and I have a lot of debt due to medical bills. We've managed to hang on to the house for 20 years... we'd hate to lose it now.

I went through this in the 80's... I didn't find a steady job for 2 years. Then, in the 90's... it happened again when my daughter was born in '91, then again in '99. I tried to get out of this job when things started to go bad, but I couldn't.

Now, I'm 55 and looking for work.

Sucks...

Suffering is the pits !!!!!

Some of your stories make mine look pretty brite, I'm still employed if you will, self employed that is and so things could turn around on a dime for me and I'll be back working 24-7

But I hate this job, it feeds on others suffering and that is wrong.

I'm not talking about inmates here, I'm talking about the families.

on a brighter note, were having a blizzard here in northern IN and my kids and I are set to play some Wii and X-box 360 as long as the electricity hold out.

We made hot chocolate and the wife curled up in front of the TV for some chick flicks.

Life is good even in the midst of unsure times!!!!!!

b.b., maybe this is a good time in your life to do some brainstorming, and see if you can figure out a way make a living in a way that you can be thoroughly proud of...

no need to be bringing bad karma down upon yourself! And best time to look for a new line of work is when you still have the old one, right?

Hey Ellen W... you bring positive feed back to this place. Glad you are here. We have not met yet... so HI to you.

I started a thread about Jobs Lost and this thread ties in so very well with all the concerns being mentioned.

Anyway... glad to meet you and I look forward to future discussions.

I've heard that North Dakota has some rediculus amount of job openings. Not sure what kind of jobs they are but if you are really hurting and have the means to move places it could be worth looking at.

I was unable to find work for 3 years (from 2000 to 2003). What made it worse was that I got laid off 1 week before my wedding. My new wife was not impressed and really made a nightmare of our marriage.

We did manage to survive it though, and now I own a business (digital printing). It was going well until last summer. I have not been able to pay myself since then, but I have had enough work coming in to keep the business going. I am of the opinion at this point that the businesses that survive this will be stronger for it, so I continue to hang on here. Fortunately, I get enough side work as a 3d animator to keep personal bills paid. 3d animation pays very well, but its very sporatic.

I am thankful for what I have, because I know a number of printers who have gone out of business already, and more that are on the verge of going under. I believe God is watching out for me. My heart goes at to all of you who are struggling - I know how hard it can be.
