so here's my idea:

maybe once a month or so we'll pick a new song, then anyone who wants to will have ample time to practice up on it and record it. once it's recorded and you're happy with the results you can then upload it to youtube and post a link in the thread.

then everyone can view the videos and see everyone's personal take on the song. constructive criticism will be allowed - but absolutely no flaming what so ever.

if everyone follows the rules and plays nice this could be a really swell community building feature and a lot of fun.

please post your thoughts on this idea, i'm going to work on drafting up the first thread for it and probably post it tomorrow - taking into consideration what feedback has been posted here.

Once again, it's almost like you're reading our minds as we've been tinkering with a similar contest idea which is already in the works. :D The nice thing about our version is that there'll no doubt be treats and trinkets waiting at the end, if you catch my drift. That said, this is merely a teaser as it'll be down the road before we're ready to go live with anything.

We've been playing with the same idea to take on the road.

Stay tuned to the forum for hints about some upcoming "On the Road" events...

And if you have any ideas for Fender Road Events, this is the place to bring em. Let us know what YOU want.

with that being said, is it alright to go ahead with a 'just for fun' type one like i described in my original post until then? i know i won't have prizes to offer or anything, but it should still be a lot of fun.

Oh no, by all means proceed ... I'm just letting you know that we're intending to host a similar type deal later down the road and it'll eventually lead to prizes and whatnot. Sounds like Emery's cooking something up too (didn't even know that) so it's all good!

cool deal, i'll call it 'the UNOFFICIAL youtube challenge 1' or something so as not to have it confused with the official contest type thing once it gets rolling.

so, suggestions for songs anyone?

Well I don't want to suggest a song I know .. I want it to be a challenge... I'm into learning some bluegrass country music so if someone has a suggestion in that direction, he has my vote.

Well it is time for another challenge. I propose Stairway to Heaven as a likely candidate, since Smoke on the Water has already been done and everyone seems to know it already.
