Hello I'm looking to buy a Fender Stratocaster but I don't know which one to get, either the Mexican Standard ones or these American Strats.

I know the American ones are more expensive (In UK) but I want to know what's the difference if any... obviously there's going to be something different so could someone explain to me please.

Fenders I'm looking at:

American Standard

Normal Standard (Mexican I think)

Thanks.
Daniel.

Hello DanielMGardner,

Firstly welcome to the forum.
An often talked about subject here
at the Fender forum the quandry
"USA or Mexico"

Mexes are a nice guitar many
like them better than USA.
Definitly a great value.

USA, I believe have better
electronics and hardware,
I also lean tward the USA
for best fit and finish.
Also the USA comes with
a hardshell airline case.

So my thoughts are if you
have the dough-re-mi to spend
get the California made product.
My thoughts.

Cheers.

The MIMs I've played have the necks too fat for me. I think the American has a skinier neck as do the Squiers. But the Squires necks are not radioused.

Buy what feels good and plays well.

Do you have any chance to actually try them out in a local shop? That's really the only way to decide. Quality-wise many people are happy with the MIM products.

Here are the main differences for an MIA:
1) More detailed "richer" neck (incl 22 frets)
2) Better pups
3) Better tremelo
4) Better selection of finishes
5) Includes (beautiful) HSC

I, personally, think the extra money is well spent for the MIA. However, a MIM with new pups can often rival an MIA. I know mine does.

yes, either way its a fender, and fender means quality. you won't be disappointed with either of em; i have a MIM classic series 50s strat and i love it, you can get any sound you need outta it.

My advise to you is simple. If you have a local music store or stores, play a bunch of different models and different ones within those models. The one that feels the best to you is the best. Just because thay are the same model does not mean that they are the same guitar. As the old saying goes, "play before you pay".

If you are thinking of American Made vs Mexican made, I would go in the store with about $1300 or at least a bank card with that much in the bank because when you do find "the one", you need to buy it right then and there. If you end up not needing the rest of the money, that's great. You may need it for accessories for that guitar you bought. Keep us informed of how you did.

Hi Daniel, welcome to the forum. I'm afraid you'll have to try a few MIM for yourself, because some of them come with different pick-ups along with special features stock from the shop. Like the Baja, the 60th aniversary, the Jimmy Vaughan and so on. Good luck.

Claude.

If you CAN get a chance to play some, try the Cray and JV, you may be surprised.

Good choices you are looking at. IF you can throw the extra cash I'd get the American Standard because you would have better pickups, but you can also Mod a Mexican to sound amazing.

The mexican ones I've played actually (some of them) have better necks than a lot of the american ones! I mean legato flowing like butter necks, with no struggles.

Eithr way you will rock out with a Fender strat of some sorts. Best of luck with your new axe purchase.

'Have both. The MIA is definitely nicer, tho it's hard to actually quantify precisely. Rose Bowl queen vs 4th place vote-getter?

That said, a nice MIM WITH a pro setup will put a big honkin grin on your face every time you pick it up.

Shop big, try many. Make a really educated decision. Get a great setup. Then you will likely have a friend for life.

Thanks for all your replies.

I found a guitar I liked.

Fender Stratocaster Classic 50's Dephane Blue.

Thanks.
Daniel.

Hi Daniel:

Excellent - love that blue!

Out of sheer nosy curiosity, as a fellow Londoner do you feel like telling us where you shopped? How was the price? Been going up steadily as the pound has slid against the dollar since the summer... :(

Cheers - C
