Hey Guys, I really need your help here.

I am a novice guitarist (4 years), always just loved banging away 3 chord idiot rock and roll (acoustic) for hours on end.

I have recently 'aquired' 4 new guitars.....a '99 Stratocaster "Blackie", '04 Standard American Telecaster, '81 Stratacoustic & '90 Montara (semi Acoustic).

My questions are:

String advice for the semi's vs. electrics?
Amp advice too?

Is there a good amp that I could use for all guitars. It is only to play in the house, I know the acoustasonic series are good but i'm not too keen on spending the money on different amps!

Any help would be great!

First lets tackle the strings question. Electric -Most Fender electrics are shipped with 9 gauge strings and setup accordingly. I happen to like pure nickel strings but that is just my preference. Strings are really a very personal choice. You will have those that say heavier gauges will get you bigger sound, but I don't agree. I happen to like DR strings, Fender Super Bullets, and Gibson Vintage Les Paul strings. Most of my fenders have 9 gauge, my LP has 10 gauge, and my detuned axe has 13's. Acoustic - I like nanoweb strings on my acoustic, nice tone and long life.

If all you are doing is playing around the house and want to get the most flexability then I would suggest the G-Dec series. Fun little solid state amp with a lot of features. If you want tube then go with a Pro Jr. or Blues Jr. 15 tube watts is pretty loud though if all you are doing is playing at home by yourself.

Ditto on the G-DEC, let me recommend the super-user-friendly G-DEC Jr. at only $179. Playing to a beat and the chord changes in the presets and especially midi file streams is going to do wonders for your playing. And the headphone out will do wonders for your familial, neighborly and/or romantical relations.
