The tone control right under my volume control on my deluxe strat doesnt seem ( to my ear anyway) to change the tone at all. the bottom tone control has some effect.

is it just a very subtle tone control or could it be busted? the guitar is less than 2 months old, never been opened up, purchased brand new.

playing around with it further i see that the bottom tone control has effect on position 1-4 on the pickup selector switch, and the middle tone control has control over positions 4 and 5. is this normal on a strat?

They may or may not move it, it's a fine question for the Lounge area, and will probably get more responses here too. If you google your selector switch or research it well enough you will find a chart that tells you what p/us' are active in different positions, that chart will also tell you which tone nobs are active also. I can't remember where I saw it last, but I do know it is somewhere on this website. Good luck searching. If I find it I'll edit my post or post again, whichever is easier.

Number your switch positions 1-5 starting from the one closest to the bridge. If this is an American Deluxe, you have the S-1 circuit. Begin your checks with the S-1 button out. Make sure you understand how this circuit affects the tone and settings of your guitar.

I found it in the support area, but I had to search around to find it. Anyways here is the answer... When your selector switch is up all the way that is position 5.
position 5... the neck pickup is active and uses T1
position 4... the neck and middle pup are active and use T1 and T2
position 3... the middle pup is active and uses T2
position 2... the middle and bridge pup are active and use T2
position 1... the bridge pup is active and uses T2
I believe this is accurate and I hope it helps.

According to Specs on the American Deluxe S-1, T1 controls the neck, T2, the middle and bridge. Engaging the S-1 should change some of this. Nevertheless, amigo out there has enough to go on to complete his research.

thanks guys. those answers match my findings. the S1 switch doesnt have any effect on what tone pots affect what pickups, its the same regardless of the S1 being on or off, at least on my guitar. thanks again all.

Oh shoot...I missed that you have a deluxe that is a Fender not a Squier like mine. Yeah the S-1 changes things and I gave you some poo poo information, which I think I will edit so I don't confuse people, disregard it please. Anyways just click on support which is next to community and then click on wiring diagrams, then find your guitar in the big list, then click on switch diagrams and presto you will have what you need.

The tone knob next to the pu. switch has an effect. Makes the instrument sound much more mellow. You'd have to read the owners manual to really get a detailed explanation though. :)
