Man, I'm really frustrated!

I need a Squier pickguard which only one place I can find on the web seems to carry. Unfortunately, it has been my experience with this place that they don't answer their phone (answering machine only) nor return e-mail. Of course, their whole site is setup to expedite on-line purchases via PayPal, credit cards, etc.

Then, there's the no matter whom you call dealers who will give you an ambiguous 'maybe', regarding whether they'll try to help you or not but are crystal clear that they must have your money up front before they even consider entertaining the idea. Naturally, they let you know that they MUST charge you straight list price for the pickguard too.

For all the obvious reasons, I'd rather not name any of these places.

So...

Does anyone know of a DEPENDABLE, US Fender dealer who, will answer their phone "live", place your order quickly and not charge you a lung for it?

If no one answers this question, I'll consider that in itself to be my answer.

Found these guys through I think it was Chet here on the boards. I have bought 2 from them for other guitars.

There are these, if you haven't already tried them, from Canada.

Actually, I'm in the US so it would be an expensive enterprise. Thanks any way.

Thanks to all. Truth be told, I wanted to stick with a genuine Squier (Fender) but if I can't find an accomodating/reliable dealer, I'll surely use one of your suggestions.

Fender parts are oftentimes not a direct replacement for Squier parts because Squier parts are overseas for Fender/Squier to Fender specs, but are not made by Fender, so the interchangeability is not as exact as one might think. Also with many pickguard swaps, it is very likely a new hole or 2 may need to be drilled in the guitar for proper alignment...So while I see you would like to stick with Fender parts, it may not be a direct/exact replacement for your Squier guitar.

Plus, why must you order over the phone? Most places I deal with are good at replying to emails...Yes, it may take them a day or so to get back to me, but I am probably not the only person contacting them about something...Paying electronically is pretty secure these days...As far as Squier parts, I have gotten good stuff from GuitarFetish, and its about as close to a direct replacement I could find on the Tele pickguard I got from them for one of my Squiers...

Agreed. Yet, this is an outright Squier brand pickguard I'm trying to get. I even have the part number for it.

From the Squier site, perhaps a call here will be able to help you out:
SERVICE (US): Squier product service is available through our national network of Authorized Service Centers. For the location of an Authorized Service Center near you, check with your local Fender dealer or call Fender/Squier Consumer Relations at (480) 596-7195.

or email:
consumerrelations@fender.com

Hi Martian. I'm wondering if Niki is thinking of WD Music, within which case of course they exist in the US as well. I have used their custom service for pickguards with non-standard screw arrangement and it works well. You do a careful tracing onto paper of the pickguard you want to replicate, including all slots and screw holes, then they scan it into their CNC machine and produce you an exact copy in the material of your choice. Info at their website.

Only thing, it is a very "full price" way to go...

However, if you actually have a part number for the Squier 'guard then any authorised Fender dealer can order it. If they say not then I think it must be sheer laziness on their part. Try someone else!

Good luck - C

no its a bass player i used to be in a band with who works in a plastic moulding factroy. He made his own selection for his squire bass. Cost him about 75p a plate, as his boss only charges him for material used.

Hey, really? And the price to us?

If it ain't too much that could even make sense for international buyers...

Cheers - C

Actually, it wasn't WD. However, I spoke with an excellent Fender dealer yesterday who even has the exact Squier guard I seek in stock. However, he stated that because it could have been made in one of several countries, he could not guarantee a perfect fit. Consequently, it comes down to do I take a chance on it at $17 or do I go with a custom made one which will ultimately cost three times as much.

I'm at the point now where I'm leaning toward the $17 one and doing whatever trimming and redrilling are necessary to make it fit as brand new, the entire guitar it will be going on is only $199!

Cant say he's thought about it as a business venture. He is quite thirsty though, so a pack of tennents super should even cover postage :D
