I had a strap break on me once and my 79 Strat fell to the ground, bent one of the f-tuners and added some nice character to the body.

I was strapping on my Gibson Les Paul Custom Silverburst when the strap didn't quite make it on the strap button. It fell off of me face down onto an MXR Distortion + pedal. The face of the guitar got a big dent in it from the tank-like pedal, and the headstock lost some of it's binding near the tuners.
Or the time I dropped my 1982 Ibanez Artist straight down on the floor. It bounced off of the side near the output jack. It bounced back up a good 10" before falling back on the floor, to my horror. It lost a section of lacquer the size of the output jack plate! I mean, no more finish, right down to the bare wood!
I now use Dunlop or Schaller straplocks on ALL my guitars.

I had this old cheap guitar that my son crawled over as a baby. This was him doing a Pete Townsend at age four. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBOngERDIvc

He takes a lot better care of my Strat and his new Epiphone SG now.

Gridlok

About two years ago, I dropped an acoustic guitar down the stairs by accident. It broke in half and I'll never see it again. :( :( :(

I had my Fender Red Knob Deluxe 85 sitting up on the back seat of my old '72 Cadillac, and my Strat in the Flight Case sitting upright on the Floor in front of it. I came to a sudden stop, and the amp fell on it's face. The Control Face met the Handle and Latches of my Case and Busted the Footswitch Jack, Head Phone Jack, and Treble Knob on the Clean side.

Same amp, just a few months later, I was trying out two new things, a Coiled Guitar Chord, and putting my Amp up High, like on my Dresser. I got it all set up, Turned around and took a couple steps toward my pedals. The Coil Chord had looped, and I pulled the Amp right off the Dresser. It fell about 4 1/2 feet to the ground. It actually sounded pretty cool when it hit the floor, but it sounded different for about a year, the reverb didn't ring very long anymore. 'Till I tripped over a box while carrying it and set it down real hard, using it to break my fall. The reverb came right back and it's sounded great ever since, except I have to have the footswitch plugged in or the reverb doesn't work.

I had my Ibanez in one of those rooftop storage box things, like you use for skis and stuff. we had too many people inside the van so put a couple guitars, and some other stuff up there to make room. We stopped for gas and snacks and stuff, someone got something from the box, and didn't latch it properly.

We turned a corner and saw my guitar case go flying. The case exploded, and the guitar went skipping across the snow. The paint is shot, lotta dings and scratches, but miraculously the neck was unharmed, except for a couple little dings on the headstock. The guitar looks like utter hell, its covered with stickers now  But it still plays fine.

I'm thinking of making repainting it a winter project. But its been that way for like 15 or so years now, maybe longer.

Also I dropped my strat offstage once, I think I didn't put the strap on properly, gotta get some straplocks. The Strat didnt get hurt, theres a couple little dings but I'm not exactly sure when they occured.

Don't you hate it when when you come to rehearsal/practice and your bass/guitar has new dings in it and nobody accounts or apologizes?
Happened many many years ago, but ticked me off enuff I still remember. Grrrr!

Lesson learned -- always put the axe away in a proper case if leaving at rehearsal space. Or just take it when you leave.

Well my Fender is brand new so it does not have any experience.

But as a kid I got this very old accoustic guitar from my grandmother which she owned as a kid. And this is a very old guitar, it was made when they made guitars in "female" sizes, it's maybe 50 to 80 years old.

The worst thing that happened to that guitar is that it got into my hands. I just spend my time banging on and pretending to be a rock star. And know I'm looking for someone in Iceland who can restore it for me.

When my cousin heard about me getting the guitar he got so jealous that my grandfather ended up giving him a old mandolin and my cousin also spend his time playing it like a rockstar and bang it on floor.

Sorry for all spelling errors, English is my third language.

i once saw a guy in the music store who was tryin out a strat and as he was standing up he knocked it on the speaker cabinet and left a very noticeable ding on the bottom edge of the guitar and he just hung it back up without sayin anything. and well he wasnt allowed back not because he dinged it but because he didnt tell the owner.
