what are some of the worst things that happened to one of your guitars now or in the past.

dog knocked a dresser over and it fell on mine leaving a very large crate on the side of it

In 1992 there was a 7.3 Earthquake in Landers California. 25 miles away in Big Bear, my Stratocaster was knocked on it's back. 3 Hours later a 6.4 Aftershock Centered right under my Guitar in Big Bear knocked a very heavy Rock off a desk where it was being displayed, it landed right on my guitars Face, leaving three Dings and corresponding Paint Chips in it's path.

I was across town sleeping off a party that I didn't want to bring my guitar to 'cause I didn't want it to get hurt.

wow that really sucks the decision you made to protect it only wound up hurting it

i was carrying my acoustic through my garage and it lightly brushed up against the brick wall and left a long scrape down the side

I am very fortunate that my guitar came pre-scratched - it was a "scratch and dent" model with a chunk out of the finish right where my right arm would "road-wear" it anyway over time. It looks like I've already slammed it on the ground in a big exciting Pete Townsend-Kurt Cobain-style rock and roll finale.

So I'm sure I will worry much less about the second scratch, when it comes.

My son was running through the house and at that time I was still using floor stands to put my guitars in. He knocked it over and it hit the coffee table and splintered the neck from the bottom of the headstock to half way down the middle of the neck (diagonally). The only thing holding my neck together was the rose wood of the fretboard. I took it to the shop and had it glued back together until I could find a replacement neck for it. Until I replaced the neck, it didn't stay in tune very well and I could not get it to intonate worth a crap.

Once I slammed my 1979 Peavey T-60 into the side of the car when the gig bag slipped off my shoulder. The guitar got a small dent and the car got a big one. That thing is a tank.

I haven't had any major tragedies, I just hate it when people play or want to play my guitar and amp...One of the few times I let someone, they fell down trying to adjust my combo amp, knocking over and killing the combo amp...So don't ever ask to play my guitar or play through my amp...

Once, I forgot to lock the case to my 1961 Gibson Melody Maker. When I picked it up, it fell out of the case and landed on the corner of a metal stool. Put a large, noticeable dent right next to the neck. I am glad nothing worse happened to it though. :)

Well a few things have happened but I can remember one time many years ago.
I had this Selmer Thunderbird 50 watt combo and we were playing this gig somewhere, when I noticed these people in the audience waving at me. So thinking I'd just played a good riff and feeling pleased with myself I politely started waving back ( like you do, you know? )
Then they were shaking their heads and pointing there fingers at something behind me, so I looked around and to my horror I saw all this smoke belching out of my amp. It looked like one of those dry-ice machines.
Anyway I dashed back, unplugged myself, turned it off and plugged into the other guitarist's amp and finished the night from there.
Turned out I'd got a blown transformer and a coupla other things, anyway I got it fixed and traded it for another.
I wanted a new amp anyway.
Cheers

No kiddin'? I was in Sugarloaf when the Quake hit. In fact, "The Roadhouse" was the first place I ever played live, but it was called "The Loafer" back then.

Right across from Easy's Market, yup I know the place. Heck I may even have seen you play and not known it! If so, I'm sure you sounded great. :D

I was stationed in Barstow at the time. I remember that morning very well..
Quick funny story. Earthquakes freaked my wife out. All the time we had been in Barstow, for one reason or another I had not felt any of the small to medium tremors that are normal to the area - out of town, driving, something. And that pissed her off!
The Landers quake hit at 5am and was VERY intense. To this day, I am not sure what woke me - the earthquake or my wife's fingernails in my arm and her yelling "Do you feel that you son of a $@!&*?"
