I am female and need a lightweight guitar. I have a thin line Tele and love it but now would like to save for a Strat. I looked at the specs but can't make head or tails of them.

What would be a good, lighter, Strat to get? (I don't want a Squier.)

I would suggest going to a music store or several and try out the different one in your price range.

Have you thought about building one? My chambered Strat from Warmoth is ultra-light and sounds killer. (There's a pic in the "dream guitars" thread.)

Building is overstating it... I should have asked, have you thought about buying parts and screwing them together? :D

Each guitar weighs differently. Some are extra heavy and some are extra light. You really need to go to a shop and hold em in your arms if weight is a prime concern.

Here's an idea .... you can get an acoustic steel or nylon string guitar wired for electric hookups and run the output to a Fender G-Dec to get a w-i-d-e range of sounds. You can't get much lighter than that .... plus, you have the option to play acoustic tunes without switching instruments.

Some woods, such as ash and poplar are lighter than others. But this is generally speaking. With wood being an organic material the density and therefor weight varies. As has already been suggested:try the actual guitars out. Another thing is of course the strap.A wide, thickly padded one will ease the load.
