I like heavy picks, though my teacher says that they will break my strings. She also suggests that I use a small jazz pick for more control. However, so far I am still using regular size picks. I like picks that have a grip. My favorites right now are purple "Wedgies." They have a nice groove in them and a non-slip texture.

Heavy picks don't break strings. Heavy playing does.

Those jazz pics she recommends are usually so stiff they feel like stone.

Use what works for your touch, but try everything before you decide. I ended up playing Dunlop .73mm (yellow) Tortex Sharps, a nice compromise between the standard plectrum and the sharper "jazz" tip. It really did clean up my playing and improve my control, so your teacher may have a "point." :D

I use V-Picks. www.v-picks.com The really cool thing about them is that they stick to your fingers when they get warm.

I use Dunlops of different shapes and sizes depending on the sound and feel I want.

I'll have to check those out. I use the standard tortoise shell medium ones that I've been using for years.
