Normally if I was only hearing this from the GCs and Sam Ashes, I would also think it's a ploy by them to make more profit in a stale economy. However, two things concern me; first if you look through this thread, there are posts from folks who have local Mom and Pop dealers that they trust saying the same thing. And two, there has been no comment at all from Fender confirming or denying the "rumor". I understand that price increases are normal over the course of time -but 30%+?? If that is true, then I feel sorry for the small dealers especially. We can opt to spend or not spend our money where we want - they don't have much of a choice. :(

Those points are a bit worrisome, except I'm sure sales are up, and Fender would Dock the pay of anyone who would quell a profitable rumor. Remember with Y2K, not one Computer Manufacturer, Software Company, or Computer Distributor said it was bunk. (And it was Bunk, I did nothing to my old computer and watched it do nothing at midnight 2000). And the Mom and Pop stores could be reacting to the rumors, or even feeding them to get the sales. I mean, if you were sitting on a %1200 Fender that wasn't moving 'cause your local market doesn't want it, you're not gonna tell your customers, "Don't worry, it'll be hangin' there for a nother year."

In fact, if it was true, Fender probably be running a Clearance Campaign like when they upgraded the MIM Standard, the old models were going for $299 in some cases. If the increase was for materials and hardware costs, then Washburn, Gibson, Danelectro, and Ibanez would be going up for the same reason. Gretch, Jackson, Taylor, and SWR would be going up, too.

I'd say that's one more piece of evidence toward the "Bunk Theory"

I was in a shop just the past few days looking at a RI Twin Reverb I'm planning on purchasing, and the owner showed me a few things. He has the catalogue for winter 2009 and compared it to the Fall 2008 catalogue and prices definitely went up. He has the Amp now for $1590 CAD and Fender just raised the price to $2090 American. I think it's a good time for me to buy this.

Not this one. :?

(Edit) It looks like Fender has "upgraded" their Standard Tele's and Strat's and that they are more expensive, but it's not across the board. American Standard, MIM Deluxe's, and amps are still steady.

That is not one of the 2009 MIM Standards but rather a older model, probably a 2007 or 2008 one.

Yeah I realized that last night  But it's still only on the MIM standard cause of Upgrades. They did the same thing last year, but they weren't so secret about it. That's still far from a %40 across the board Price Hike.

Well, it's Feb 1st and MIM Standard Stratocasters have gone up $50 (about 12%) due to upgrades. All other Fender and Squier Products (Amps and Guitars alike) are the same or cheaper, since most stores are clearing out the old model MIM standards for a $350 bargain.

It's the Y2K Lesson all over again.

I do to know about the outrageous prices now! I was going to get some distortion pedals but they were like 200 over the price it used to be!

Best Buy's website now reflects the price increase. For example, a 72 Thinline Tele that was once $750 is now $940. A Blues Jr. amp is now $600. Squire prices have gone up, too.

Bollocks!

Sam Ash, Guitar Center, and Musicians friend all have the same prices with the exception of the upgraded MIM Standards. In Fact Sam Ash has a Fender Pro Jr 1x10 Combo for a very attractive $379, and American Standard Strats for $999.

I'll give it two more days before I put my official BS stamp on it.

I did my shopping before February 1, but as the guitar is to be delivered in about 2 months I've been caught by the increase; a double one: the MSLP increase and a lesser discount from my Dealer.
Hopefully the US$ is quite low..
