Well...I don't know if this means anything, but I just took a look at the custom shop price list from elsewhere on this site (effective 1st Feb. '09) and some prices seem lower to me. A few weeks ago I was looking at the Time Machine strats and the price for most relics was $3884, but now it's listed as $3700. I can't be completely certain because the model I was most interested in (the '66 strat) has been dropped from the lineup. I was looking at a second-hand one and thought I'd best check the suggested retail before making a decision...

Dude, this seriously sucks. I'm not going to pay just shy of $1000 for a new MIM guitar after Feb. 1st. This 30% hike across the board is just ridiculous. And Fender hasn't even given us a reason why yet.

I'm glad that I have the Fender stuff that I want anyways, because I, for one, am dissapointed. You don't pull crap like this and expect the faithfull to stay with you.

I got a email today from the music store I do business with this morning and it said that the MIA Jazz Deluxe bass was going up to $1,820.00 on Feb, 1st. I don't play bass so I don't know how much of an increase that is but they were basically telling me if I wanted a Fender instrument I'd better hurry!!

Bought my MIM Tele about a week ago and the sales dude said that with the next shipment (to here in Australia) all Fender stuff was going up by 20-30%. Ouch. Guess my Strat will have to wait a while...

I just looked at the price list in the new frontline.
WHile its interesting to see my classic series strat is now going for what a mia57 reissue was going for last year its also kind of dissapointing.
I just bought a mim tele but was planning on a vintage series mia strat that ive wanted for years shortly.
Frankly fender has priced its instuments out of my reach.
I work hard like alot of people and have kids and lots of other things to pay for many would think my two mexican fenders are an extravagence.
I dont know in the long run if it will be a healthy thing for fender to have its only customers be those who can drop two grand on a whim for a guitar I hope it works out for them though.
I doubt not selling one strat to me will hurt them but like i say it is dissapointing not to be able to do it like I planned.

Id like to say one last thing on the subject.
Id like to preface it by saying I know Fender is a business.
I respect that.
However I have to wonder if they have many customers like me?
Ive used fender products exclusively for decades.
I dont have alot of money to spend on myself with many other responsibilties.
Once every three or four years inspite of massive disapproval from certain quarters I manage to buy something from Fender out of a Tax Refund.
And it hasnt been easy beleive me.
But I love Fender guitars.I dont buy hunting rifles or Golf Clubs or four wheelers.or video games.
I know they dont intend it that way but it feels to me like they are saying:
"Hey,thanks for your support all these years but if you dont fit the Custom Shop Elite Customer disposable income demographic....see ya!"
I dont know maybe we wont be missed.

Why? If he's already got the guitar in stock then he got it at the old price. And we've also heard of dealers already applying the increase to orders placed in January.

None of this is right. Dealers are under a heap of pressure too, particularly at this point in the economy, but still...

BTW: kline, just out of curiosity, are Japanese Fenders available in Australia still? You are a lot closer than most of us to that source, after all...

Cheers - C
