Amps as well?? Oh well...there goes the new Super Champ XD i was GAS'ing over. Guess I'll buy used...or E-Bay. Would be nice if Fender came out and explained WHY the prices have to go up. Maybe they have, and I just haven't seen it.

That's what my source is strongly suggesting. For reference, since I see you're from upstate, I buy a lot of gear through Rose (Rosemary) Nicotera of Nictotera's Music in Utica. I've done business with her dad and now Rose since the mid-1960s so I know I can trust what I'm hearing. While she's not outright telling me not to order the red Tele, she's mentioned "price increase" along with "what I have in stock" several times.

She has not mentioned any actual figures but said she'd have to "get me a price" if I ordered. In my mind, that strongly suggests also that there's a significant increase. If it was only a matter of $25 - $50, I don't think I'd keep getting the nudge to buy rather than order.

I love Nicoterra's, and I'm from the immediate Utica area. Bought my second bass from her father when I was 15. Great store. How cool to meet you here, what a small world. Rose is definitely a straight shooter. I go in there sometimes to talk shop. Great people. Stores like that are few and far between in this day in age it seems. Unfortunately, the only purchase I've really had my eye on would require an order, so no dice for me.

Topic of another forum, but Nicotera's illustrates exactly the difference between the local owner who cares about music and those who play it and a corporate entity that mostly cares about "the books." But to get back on topic, I got off the phone just 1/2 hour ago after deciding to go with the Natural Tele. Rose never did 100% say ordering a custom color would for fact cost me more, but she did confirm that prices go up in February.

I think I understand -- my cost would depend possibly on when they made the guitar, not when she ordered it? The last time I did an order through her, it was about 3 weeks before the item arrived from Fender. On that basis, I guess it would be "iffy" as to whether my order would beat the price increase or not.

But in any event, it's confirmed that prices go up in February.

Yeah, I think it would depend on when she took possession of the item. As it's been pointed out that already, instock items could still be sold at the previous prices. Basically, if Fender hit her with the increase, then it would have to be passed to you, understandably. It would be a gamble as to wether it came in "under the wire" or not.

BTW, is the Tele you're speaking of the 72' Thinline? If so it's an absolutely beautiful guitar.

Regarding the previous two posts, it is my understanding that if a dealer places an order with Fender before the date of their price increase then the dealer gets it for the current price and should charge the customer accordingly.

Doesn't matter when the guitar is actually delivered. That has been my experience, anyhow. Often used by shops to incentivise us to place orders before a certain date...

By the sound of it the dealer in question is perfectly reputable. However, I have strong suspicion that certain dealers use the confusion around this sort of issue to charge us the new higher price for instruments that they actually bought at the old lower price.

The little dears...

Cheers - C

Ok so, does anyone else think a price increase in this economy, at this particular time, is more than a little foolish?

Who are the idiots making these decisions over there at Fender???

It is not just Fender.
Just bought a month supply of cat food cans and it is up 14% over what the price was last week.
Game shop said to buy stuff now, all their Nintendo stuff is supposed to go up next month.

Almost everywhere I've looked I'm being told all the prices seem to be about to take a big jump.
Perfect timing to help out in a rotten economy.

Back to the barter system, I'm happy trading for used stuff.
(well mostly used, prefer the food & Beer to be new)

Well Ceri, I think you must be psychic- I just came back from stopping in at my local Sam Ash store. We talked a bit about the price increase, and I said " but the guitars you have in stock already will stay at the old prices...right?" Oh Nooooo - they will go up too, and according to the Sam Ash salesman, that is a "directive from Fender" ... Now that really says "bend over guys...." if it's true.
