Used a little this morning and it felt nice. What do you guys think? Anything I should keep in mind before using it?

I used that stuff about 20 years ago and found that I was replacing strings more often. Its my understanding that it is basically a mineral oil base.

So I am getting the feeling that I should shy away from it. What about using it on the back of the neck?

I would think you would not want to have the back of you nect to be oily either. I know others in this forum use more high end cleaners and such but, I've found that Pledge works just fine. It leaves a very minute film that makes the neck more than slick enough for my needs.

Just play until your fingers have good hard calluses and you won't need it anyway.

I got a can of it for Christmas and figured I would try it out. I've been playing for a little over a year and have fully developed my calluses. I cleaned the body of one of my acoustics with pledge once and could hardly hang on to it. Other than that I never use anything other than a little water or the good old fashioned spit shine method for cleaning.

When I applied it this morning, I gave the fingerboard and strings a very light mist and left it. The back of the neck got the same mist, but I immediately wiped it down with a clean cloth. Everything was nice and slick. Perhaps I will keep it around for occasional use.

If I want my fingertips to be a little more slick, I rub my finger up where the outside of my nostril meets the cheek - there's a little oil pool there. Or my forehead. I use my natural skin oils. I always wipe my strings down really well with a guitar rag, or old clean cloth diaper, after playing so gunk doesn't build up. 8)

I used to use aftershave to clean my strings. The alcohol cuts the grime and it contains a nice light lubricant for slick strings. Had to stop using it because girls were going nuts over my guitar case!

Playing the same chord as Mike on this one.

It's a gimmick and not needed once you have decent callouses and muscles.

'Might want to check your string gauges and setup, too. In this opinion, after playing for a year or five, you should be able to play well set-up / strung instruments for several hours at a a time without noticing much

I know some guys who swear by that stuff, but personally, I figure your strings get dirty enough from your sweat, body oils, and pick dust, so why put more debris on them? So I never use the stuff. If your strings feel like crap, change your strings...If the back of your neck is slow, wipe it...

Hi ITL15: I have a can of FingerEase sitting on my shelf. Been there a long while - I really must try it some time and see what it does!

Cheers - C

I used to use it also years ago, but now that the tips of my fingers have been tough for so long, no need for it... I agree with what some of the folks are saying here... build the callouses... you won't ever need finger ease.

Too funny :D

On a more serious note, back in rock days (35+ years ago), I'd use the stuff if we had a gig in a serious rock venue. I was never the world's fastest guitarist and most of our sets were blues, commercial rock, classic stuff like Stones and Beatles, etc. where blinding speed wasn't needed. But every once in a while, we'd be doing a more hard rock crowd and I'd need to pick up the speed some.

The Fingerease worked and since I always changed strings after each gig anyway, the crud really didn't matter.

I used to use that stuff back in the 60s. Yes, the 60s! It slimed up the strings and neck pretty well but once it started to dissipate, it would gunk up the fingerboard and neck, and prematurely kill the strings. It did become addictive though. I realized that it was a crutch and this, along with the above drawbacks and the cost of SO many cans of it made me swear off it. As I remember, it didn't smell bad either.
