Actually I'm going to pick up my MIM Strat today -had it set up and had the GFS "Fat Vintage" Neovin pups installed. So I'll let you know how they sound- I've heard alot of good things about them and saw a few videos on YouTube. So stay tuned... :D

I don't know about the GFS Strat Pickups, but a friend of mine is crazy about their Tele PUs. I have a GFS Mini Humbucker in one of my Teles that I like a lot, and today I just got a GFS Alinco II Humbucker and GFS Mean 90 that I am going to install in one of my guitars. From what I can see and read, many people like GFS pickups, and for the price, you almost just have to get one or a set to try out since the prices are very reasonable.

I've met Jay Abend and some of his staff at GFS. Jay is a very smart guy and self proclaimed do-it-yourselfer. 8)

He's jammed with Aerosmith and started modifying guitars at a young age. If you have any questions, send them an email and you'll get a response from someone who knows what they're talking about.

Good luck!

Well good news and not so good news - got the guitar back yesterday, and the middle pickup was bad- the guy that is doing the work for me said he has installed GFS pups before and this is the first one that he's seen that was bad - he is going to send it back and get a replacement for me. In the menatime I'm playing with two shiny new pups and one old one. Funny thing is, the guitar sounds and plays great! There is a bit more hum because the old pickup isnt noiseless, but it's not nearly as bad as it was before. As for the tone...it's like I just got a brand new "old vintage" guitar. I can't say enough about these pickups -I noodled last night for about an hour and I love 'em. The tone, the tone! :D

I'm really a fan of GFS pups. I have them in several guitars that I gig with. The ones I have are the humbuckers but I know lot's of people that use them and are very happy with them. Good products, great prices

I've got a set of 3 GFS pickups in my strat MIM. Very happy with them. I got the Greybottom Non-Staggered 60s-70s set.

It took a little while for my ears to get over the fact that they sounded very different than the stock PUPs. It wasn't a subtle difference. They sounded very "hollow" and for a few weeks it kind of felt "wrong" just because I was so used to the sound of the stock ones. But once I got over the surprise of playing the same chords and hearing a different tone come out of the guitar, I realized I liked these a lot better. To me, a strat is supposed to make that hollow sound, and for whatever reason the stock pickups did not give me that.

Also, my stock neck pickup was very weak. I'm not sure if it was a manufacturing defect, or if they're all that way in the MIMs. I do know that at one time the magnet had come unglued from the back of the pole pieces and had to be reglued. But even after this fix, it was never a great sound. Once I installed the GFS set, I started loving the neck pickup more.

I highly recommend them.
