Isn't playing guitar all baout making music and having fun?

We modern guitar-types are often looked at with wry amusement by more technically advanced cellists, flautits, violinists, pianists, and so on...

...as being exponentially more gear (and gear micro-details) -obsessed than obsessed with being able to really play and read music.

This writer is guilty of the gear obsession (Huh, huh, gear fun, gear good, many flavours gear be big yummy), but not concerned about one type of blah-blah being "best."

Variety is pure fun, in this opinion.

Wow, lots of passion Nikko

Though I am a confirmed Fenderman (Strats especially) I do enjoy the occasional Les Paul and SG from time to time. Luckily for me my son has one of each so it's easy.

Hi there happy Fender people!

I own a set neck Fender!!!! A TC 90 Telecaster double cutaway with P90's. It is a beautiful sounding guitar and my first Fender....I love it. I am now however, searching for a good buy on a used MIM Strat (kids and mortgage demand fiscal responsibility) bit it is now time to add to the arsenal. I will be hunting some guitar shops in Nashville on my way down to see Mickey and thanks again to all for the info on different guitar shops in that area. I may buy a guitar in Nashville - ooooooo, I am sooooo excited!!!!

One of the posts in this thread made me look like this:

I am happier now.

It is so weird to me that this Gibson vs Fender thing keeps coming up. Coming thru the guitar ranks as a primarily a Gibson player, I still always thought Strats were cool. But as cool as my SSS Strat is (and new Tele for that matter, too), I could not imagine not having my Gibson SG. Each of those guitars are capable of vastly different things. So, then ... why do so many others find themselves in an "either-or" quandry?

Well now in the early days, Ritchie Blackmore used Gibsons and then switched to Fender and is reported to have said, quote ' Because they were harder to play ' uh?
Anyway he used Strats and I don't know whether or not this is true but he was said to have glued and bolted his necks on.
Like I say, I don't know if that is true and I don't know why he would do that anyway. So that's a bit of useless information for y'all.
If I can think of anything else I don't know about, I'll let you know.
Cheers 8)

On the flip side, Tony Iommi used to play a Strat and then switched to an SG when the Strat was out for repair.
(He also played with Jethro Tull for a very brief time)

YAY for useless information

as the author or this topic, i would like to apologize to anyone that may have been offended by the "snob" comment. i have had some recent bad experiences with a few of my gibson contemporaries puttin my 6 string down a calling it a "cheap little thing" cause it had bolts??? (i am still in school and many of these owners have not gained both sides' experience, as is true to some extent to myself)
so i am sorry  to anyone who was offended, as i did not direct the comment towards all gibson owners, just a few that had me riled up.
-apologies, roberto

I'm always amazed at the amount of emotion Brand Loyalty can muster. For me, Glue and Bolts have nothing to do with it. I'm a Fender Fan because of their commitment to beginner and Working Musicians, Their Consistant Quality, The American history, The Local So-Cal History, and The Tone Of a Nice Stratocaster.

Gibson tends to cater to the Pro Level musicians and comfortably well off. They make great guitars (although a Les Pual from the 90's is noticably better made than one made in the last 8 or 9 years), and any working musician would be wise to have a Fender and a Gibby on stage to cover all the tonal basis. But the company itself never inspired me the way Leo Fender and his Legacy does.

yeah i guess brand rabid people (such as meself sometimes  )
lose their focus for a short while and need to come back to the simple realization of why music is here for all us: to relax, be creative, have fun, gain knowledge, and make friends!
